With so many styles and types available, what's your preference?

As an example, the Cobra S2's with all their plastic infills, the multi meterial types like the Ping Raptures.

Not nessacarily what you play with but a preference on style and look.

Both GM and TG have had this years gear supplments recently and it got me thinking about what each of us like in how a club looks.

Or is it, sod the looks, and go with what works?

I've got to admit that looks did form a part of my latest purhase.

I think for looks the Titleist and Mizzy blades are top notch but for me its all about being able to use what you have and controlling it. I get more control with my TP's and they are easier to shape than my R9's or Tour Burners and are more responsive especially 8 iron down to wedge

Your going to laugh at this when you read it J. ;)

For me it was the looks of what i currently play.....
Im not gone on chunky game improvers with thick toplines and cavity's that can be seen at address.
It has to be nice and sleek.....Something that compliments the size of the ball rather than intimidate it :D :D

That said it may not always be the right choice but as some have said you have to like what you see at times to feel comfortable with the club........
Im working on it  :D

I'm always surprised by the amount of people who put so much emphasis on the look of a club. Surely now that custom fitting is so widely available the feel and how well you hit it is the most important factor.

Personally i couldn't care less what the club looks like as long as it does what i want it to(most of the time anyway).

I think looks has to be the first thing before anyone even picks up a club, unless it is to mock it's ugliness.
For example in the mags 'mega' tests you have the opinion on how others felt with the club but more than likely you will dismiss their opinion and look at the style of the club then try it out for yourself.

I love my clubs, tm tour pref, little cavity, look fantastic and feel excellent, but I also really like the look of the s57's from ping, had a try at the gc and they were very good!!

Nothing with a hole in the back of it with a buttery soft feel.
Super sleek lines, nice bit of chrome all in a small package.

Thats the way I like 'em

I am a sucker for looks. That said, I only ever use the heal, toe, bottom edge and hozel any way. Makes no odds to me whether Gi or blades.

I go by the looks of the clubs first too. If a club looks good and I feel I can hit it, I most probably will.
Despite what others might think, I feel that the i15's look great at address. The stuff on the back? I only see that when I look at my bag. And even then, I still think they look good.
;)

Anything with a clunky ugly thick top line is out for me, It just is not pleasing on the eye, I stay away from irons like that. I have however been amazed recently at the amount of touring pro's that have ditched the blades for the chunkier cavity backed irons so there must be something in it.I think I need to move with the times a bit more, because I have come back to golf after a 18yr layoff I still see golf clubs as they used to be, blade style. My next set will be researched and tested more.

Has to be a blade type club for me. I want to look down when i address the ball and feel like the club and ball are in proportion to each other as was mentioned above. I don't want to see a thick top edge or more metal at the back of the club than the front. This is one of the reasons I changed from my old Callaway X12s to my S59s. Golf is all about confidence and for me certain clubs look like they were designed to hit the ball the way i want to and others don't.

Obviously this is all in my head but so is 80% of golf so I want to make sure I start on the right foot.

I chop and change, currently on looks with MP32's, last season I tried Nike Slingshots 4D'S - they were damned ugly.
Have played Cleveland CG1's (very pretty) and Ping Zing 2's (extreme ugliness) in the past.

Hitting the MP32's quite well last on Monday before all the snow arrived so going to give them a good run this season. Alas Sturday opening match and Sundays medal looks done for due to snow.

Interesting question Hapless, from the replies above it's also interesting to see so many people who struggle to break 80 but still want to look down at a blade.

I want to look down on something that makes me think "I have a very good chance of finding the sweetspot on this one". You can get over looks, hitting the ball well consistantly is what everyone is after isn't it?? To me it is absolutely pointless having something that looks fantastic but duffs it 10yds all the time.

I guess you have to have a balance. I didn't even entertain the idea of a true blade but with the S59s I have something that looks great and gives me a bit of forgiveness. Granted there are more forgiving clubs but I personally don't believe they would make me a better player, improving my short game will make me a better player but I'm working on that :)
