Its been on poor old Arthur for a while, i think it was even taken off his head for a while, but put back on by popular demand.

So what do you think of this?

is it disrespectful of Britain's most famous general or just a bit of fun?

Its people just having a bit of fun at the monuments expense. No real harm done, it's not like they have sprayed it with paint.

you havent been to Glasgow for a long time have you? it's firmly part of Glasgow now, depicted in official pictures and even at the Commonwealth games opening.

There was a Gold one put there when Scotland won gold medals at said games.

I've seen it a few times but only in passing, we met a friend for Lunch who's a military historian who sometimes teaches at Sandhurst and he was appalled by it.. and had never seen it before.

I think it is great.......sums up Glasgow.
I believe it is now an unofficial protected item.

London should follow suit and put one atop Ms Thatcher's statue.

I suppose if you were transported back in time form when he was Prime Minister you might have a political angle on doing that like you are suggesting with Maggie, my friend was looking at it along the lines of it being disrespectful to a national hero.

He was (and still is) a national hero as a general in the Napoleonic and Indian wars, but as a Prime minister he has been much maligned. The Peterloo massacre in Manchester being the main reason.
