How would you play the pictures hole? Par 4, 450 yards, Elevated tee (30 yrds) to a narrow fairway with deep open water either side at 240yrds. Green (blue circle) is tucked away behind the big pond. Its 195 to the front from the 240 mark.

Wind was about 10mph from left to right.

So, what do you do? Big stick and pummel it for the narrows or play it safe and lay up in the wide space before the water?

Playing partner and I took different options...

Driver with a slight draw against the wind down the middle of the fairway

Drumoig?

Driver into rough on edge of right hand water hazard, wedge and two putt for par. Sometimes.

Stupid hole. :)

Aim at (what looks like) a bunker below left of the house and hit my usual draw with a driver.

The wind off the left will keep me away from the water left and the draw 'should' keep it dry from the water the other side.

If as a single player I would play this as a hole where the worst score I ever want is a five. Hybrid off the tee mid iron second, wedge third and two putt.

If with a playing partner let him whale away and I will keep the same tactics for back up.

I only hit 210-220 off of the tee, so a driver as only the water on the left is in play at this stage Second shot would likely be my hybrid and I would be looking to lay up to the right of the green. 50 yard pitch and a putt and a par is on the scorecard (well in my head anyway!).

I could see me recording a umber of 7s, 8s or worse on this hole.

Bang on Jim. Really didnt like the place at all. Thought it was all a bit Mickey Mouse if I'm honest. Did like this hole though.
I took 5w and played down to about 220. 3 hybrid up the bank at the back for it to roll round.
PP went Driver and hit a cracker, until it hit the rock hard fairway (from a very high height) and bounced 30 odd yards left and in to the drink.
The 250 yard par 4 10th back the way is one of the most stupid holes I have seen as a par 3 follows it and due to being driveable it caused a major back up.

Sensible play for me is to hit 3W off the tee. Downhill, should get a wee bit of extra distance so if I hit a really good one, it might roll out past the 240 bit. Should be able to reach the green from there.

However, I'm usually confident standing on a tee with a driver (in spite of experience), so I'm pretty sure I'd hit driver if I was stood on the tee.

The course and facilities have a lot going for them but those holes around the turn seem to annoy many. Great range a pro shop there now. I like playing there occasionally but I wouldn't be able to manage two rounds in a weekend there and I'm reasonably fit and young(ish)!

If 240 clears all the trouble I'd hit driver. If not then whatever reaches the wide bit, then somewhere near the green and take my chances of getting up and down.

Found the course poor in both usage of the potential, stupid long and in terrible condition. Fairways with grass as long as primary cut at Muckhart.
Not really sure I would go back, and we had a buggy which didnt make it any less of a slog.
