As the title says bow do you prepare for a competition or match play? Do you listen to a certian type of music or something to get in the zone or build your confidence?

Not for golf! I just try and stay relaxed.

Bit different if I'm playing competitive football etc...Then I would listen to loud, fast heavy metal to get me angry and pumped up and ready to hit the living bejebus out of people.

I just hit a few balls for a warm up and then just trust that my swing wont let me down. I dont really get into a 'zone' or pump myself up for comps. If you put too much pressure on yourself and make something out to be important then you're setting yourself up for a fall. Why not just go out with a clear mind and let the dice fall where they will ?

turn up aprox 40 mins before i play , do bit of putting , chipping & light stretch , stroll over to 1st reminding myself that this is just a past time & life is good at the minute , this gets the golf in perspective & it takes the tension/pressure off . . go & play my best knowing what ever happens in the next 4 hours wont matter a jot by tomorrow, this is my past time not my job so enjoy ..

Put on a fresh shirt, have a few drinks before, line up and pay my £8.......we are talking about the club below Ritzy in Nottingham City Centre arn't we?

Most weeks hit a few balls at the range to the different yardage markers 100, 75, and 50.

Usually me and my playing partener have a nearest the pin with a 60* wedge to the 50 yard marker to finish (Winner buys the first pint).

Generally just a bit of banter to relax the atmostphere prior to stepping onto the first.

Why would you want to hit someone playing football? That's what rings are for! :p

Nice bit of Brahms on the stereo on the way to the course and try to just think of one shot at a time and try to take in the sights and sounds of the course if I stray.
Sounds good if I didn't then play like a t#t. ;)

I get there about an hour before my start time. Stretch, hit some balls, chip and then get my card etc with about 20 minutes to go, make sure I've got tees, pencils and markers, pay a last visit and then onto the putting green about ten minutes beofre my tee time to meet my partners and a last few putts. Lubbly jubbly

Wake up late, too late for brekkie, jump into the motor and bolt to the course, fire into the pro shop, exchange sarcasm, whack a putt, go for a jobbie,up to the tee, peg it up,wish nothing but sorrow to my partners, slice it wildly.

What a load of claptrap. I go out to enjoy my game, if I play well great, If I don't there's always next week.

I keep my real effort of getting focussed for my work, that's what pays the mortgage. Golf is an escape and always will be.

:D
