Hi Laka

The best courses are Burnham and Berrow like you said and St Enodoc to the south. Perranporth is good fun, another links course with lots of blind shots. St Mellion is also worth playing and lots of people like Trevose although I think it is overrated.

Me too , Bude is not worth the trip either , I am playing in the Pro Am next month at B & B and look forward to seeing it again , what about Newquay and maybe treethorne and Bowood , you can stay right next to the course

Take a detour and visit East Devon. Twire is a member there, and it looks lovely on the videos in his signature.

Burnham and Berrow is good, and Ilfracombe sounds lovely. Mate played there a few weeks ago, and he was very impressed by course, and the club/members. You should play Royal North Devon as well, though opinion differs.

Yes that is a good call actually, not the greatest course but worth playing it for the history. Claims to be the oldest course in England.

Hi Laka

I can thoroughly recommend Royal North Devon - just back from the August meeting and course was in the best condition I've seen it in the 10 plus years I've been going down there - last 8 as a country member (should declare my status!). Have a look at my twitter feed @MikeHarrisGolf for some photos from the last few days

It's not for everyone though and I know a few on here really don’t like it.

I always say it's golf in the raw and a course for lovers of natural links golf - if you want big dunes, flat fairways where you'll always get a good lie and to be given a free tartan valuables pouch on the 1st tee then it probably isn’t for you

Wonderful museum in the old clubhouse that students of the game will enjoy. They’ve even redone the showers and don't charge 50p rental on the towels!

Very good value green fees too £55 a round Sunday to Thursday, £60 on Saturday

It's England's oldest links (150th anniversary year) and the oldest English club playing over its original ground (Blackheath as a club is 400 plus years old but has played at a number of different venues)

With the new bridge its only 30 mins drive from Saunton

If you go, tell them I sent you!

Good to hear it is in such good condition Mike.

I am not a great fan based on my experiences of playing there. Love the holes from three onwards on the front nine, but not keen on the back nine over the reeds. When I have played there the greens were poor, and just took away a lot of the enjoyment. I would feel the same playing Sunningdale if the greens were bad.

I would always recommend someone to play the course though, as it is definitely a one off. Personally much prefer Saunton. The Pro did make us laugh when he said it was the best clubhouse in the country with a straight face !!

Friend of mine from Blackmoor joined RND last year and he loves it there, and doesn't see the attraction of Saunton, so it is all about opinions.
