What club do you start practice with?

I imagine 95% of you start with SW/PW then build up to the longer clubs, then back again?

That's the way I used to many years ago. Now I start with the 3 iron as I'm not ready to give it 100% so I put a good swing on it and hopefully get a good contact, the rest are easy from there and promotes a good rhythm/tempo...

..then I hit the course and smash it cause it's fun being on both toes with a driver and welly-ing a PW as far as I can possibly hit it.......no wonder I have trouble scoring...

Anyone similar?

I'll warm up with an 8 iron (not hit any balls), but my first hits (normally 5) will ALWAYS be with driver.

I find that most courses I go to could do with driver off the 1st so I try to replicate this on the range.

EDIT - assuming this means driving range practice, rather than pre-round warm up.

Warm up quickly before a round before I rush to the 1st tee (where it's possible) 5-wood. I chip it 100yds then 120, 140, 160 and work from there.

On a practice ground, an 8-iron.

with a range at the first tee it's usual to hit a few balls before teeing off - I realise this isn't normal from visiting other clubs!

I now start with an 8 iron, sometimes 7, because I find that my normal PW swing isn't full enough to give me any easy tempo, but an 8 is still not a stressfull start!

Then a few with 6i 4h or 5i 3h depending on which I started, then a few with a 52w before heading to the tee.

I will use a hybrid or a seven wood to hit into our nets, we don't have a range. I have had a few issues hitting wedges into nets!!

Range before a game is 8I, Hybrid & driver
Range on its own is all clubs mixed up but start with 8I to loosen up

My pre-round practice routine involves using a "momentous swing trainer". Its an old practice club that has a molded training grip fitted.

It also weights an absolute ton, so is great for really loosening of my back, hips and arms.

Not sure it is the healthiest option as i can literally feel my back crack and groan during the first few swings:D

Generally i do this in the car park, as i don't fancy lugging the momentous around the course with me.

Warm up swings with 2 clubs in my hand after stretching everything first or I end up with a bad back.

I usually start hitting an 8 iron with a 1/2 swing and build it up to a full swing. If I'm warming up for a game then I'll only hit a few full shots with each club finishing with a driver and it's how that goes decides if it's going to get used that round.

When I'm at the range I generally warm upwith a 9 iron. Then move to the clubs I want to work on.

When I'm at the course I start with the most lofted club in my bag. Then work backwards down the bag to half swings with a mid iron.

At range, stretching, loosening up, relaxed 'swings with a wedge' one and and two armed. Then hitting balls start at 52 or PW and hit out to 50-75 yard targets, then gradually work up two clubs a time so 52/9/7/5 or pw/8/6/4 before selecting 10-dozen balls for woods/driver unless specifically working on a swing though / alignment thing for them. Then back to wedges to end.

On course, often no facilities so stretching, loosening up, relaxed swings with mid iron and then with teeing off club.

9 iron, sometimes a PW, I then usually go 8i down to 5i - I hit my driver very little at the range (usually just 3 or 4 shots) as it never seems to go quite like it does on the course, I swear it's those hose pipe tee thingies getting in the way :D

Invariably get a bit bored after 30 balls or so and end up trying to chip into the nets and trying to hit close by distance markers at 50yds and 100yds.

I usually go with my son and we take it in turns from adjacent bays to see who can get closest - more like practice with a purpose rather than just smacking off 6 balls every 3 minutes or so which is so far removed from what happens on the course I find it no benefit at all.

Don't go to the range anymore, so my only practice outside of playing is a few shots in the net before we tee off. Usually hit a few with 8/9 iron, then a few with 5/6 iron.

Simples.

Looks like my guesstimate of 95% was wrong (so far), looks like its nearer 99% start with the high clubs.

As we have a driving range I start with an 8 iron, hit a couple of balls each time, starting about halfway to the 50yd basket and increase by 10 yard intervals until I'm hitting a full swing with the 8 iron. Then once hitting full shots I will finish with a few drives before heading to the first tee.

This is the method my coach recommends to get loosened up properly, by gradually increasing the length of the swing rather than starting off with a full swing.
