I played at quite a good number of course already this season and I have to say that I haven't played on any whose greens are anywhere near as good as the ones we have at Ellesmere, and that includes Royal Lytham.
While ours are smooth true and fast the other I have played have been patchy and often very slow. We do protect ours during the winter and don't play on them if they are frosty or very wet and although people moan it has certainly paid off for the season.

So what are yours like?

Pretty good to be fair. I played last weekend and they had been sanded / dressed and needed rain. We have had that rain this week and they played very well today despite the rain lashing down this morning. I'm playing tomorrow and it should be dry and sunny. I'm looking forward to them playing really well.

Very nice, thank you. Went back to my old club this week and they were considerably worse than ours, as were the Top 100 course I played a couple of weeks earlier.

Ours are superb. Were mini tined about four weeks ago and they are now as smooth as a baby's bottom and rolling fast and true.

Well done our green staff!!

Ours were really good until they were cored a couple of weeks ago, hard to believe they were as good as they were considering they were played on every day through winter, it clearly doesnt do much damage!

Give them a couple of weeks and theyll be back to being good again (assuming weve any green keepers left to cut them!)

the rest of the course sadly a fair bit scruffier

greens are in a much better state than this time last year but they were much better than they are now about 5-6 weeks ago. a serious lack of rain and a new irrigation system that's waiting on new pumps being fitted the main reason for that.

Well impressed. True and quick........................ bl00dy difficult to find though

i was talking to 3 guys yesterday that had just played at Cruden in the Northern Counties Seniors this week, all 3 said the greens per poor for that. Slow bumpy and seeding.

Links courses aside, I think the east side of the country has struggled a bit. Ours are dreadful. April was the driest on record but also pretty cool, so poor growing conditions. Shame because the greens staff had done a lot of work in the first few months of the year. There's been some rain in the last couple of weeks and it's getting warmer, so fingers crossed they get better quickly, but they're the worst I've ever seen them at this time of year.

Played Glasgow Gailes the other week there and their greens were magnificent. Some of the best I've encountered. Absolute pleasure to play on.

Apparently the issue with damage in winter is when the greens are partially defrosted; they look okay but playing on them risks shearing the roots below the surface and killing the grass. If they are properly frosty or not at all frosty then there should be no issue with playing on them.

Definitely weren't slow on Monday night, but they were just starting to seed. 14th isn't looking great but, apparently, that been a problem for a few years. Other than that...all good

Ours are in very good nick the the moment. We're fairly quick until the recent rain and were better than those at the other two clubs near me.I still hear members moaning about them though - some people are never happy.

Can't fault ours either. Immaculate condition on all 18 holes. I even played in heavy rain last week and they were still fantastic.
