I saw that!
I also saw people behind him NOT CLAPPING!!!
What the hell is that about?
The guy tramlines an 80ft putt, but because it was against their beloved Tiger, they don't clap??
Unbelievable.

Yes HTL... thats it you're off scratch in the charity day then.

By the way this lemon who keeps shouting "get in the hole" wouldnt it be refreshing for a golfer to do a cantona-esque flying kick in his chin?

I know its a gentlemans sport but these idiots do my head in.

I can't cheer this guys putting because he is using an abomination. Putters aren't supposed to be 20 ft long. I have never, and will never, support a guy using a long putter.

Come on Tiger, stuff it up his....

I question the validity of these long putters, most of which you stand perfectly still creating a axis under the chin and swing like pendulum. Not a golf stroke to me, if I put a putter head on the end of a snooker cue and lay down for every putt would this be allowed I wonder? Im with you Murph, its an abomination! Should be banned.

I disagree. A putt of that length on these greens still takes some making so I'm ok with him using the longer version. It didn't do Langer any harm and I'd still pay money to watch him play. Even now he is awesome both striking the ball and around the greens. Considering the state of his putting at one point I think he is a damn fine putter now

I love Langer Homer, but I dont like him using this type of putter. To me it has no similarity to a traditional golf grip or swing, Ive tried one myself and picking the initial line to send my ball off is far easier with one of these things than with a normal putter, in time all I would have to get used to, would be weight and green reading. But as a mechanical tool, well , you just stand still, stick it under your chin, look down the shaft , get the perfect image for set up, move very very little indeed and the pendulum effect does the rest, but I just hate them and think they are not a real golf club, in the same way a club head on a snooker cue isnt a real golf club, but you can be sure they will never allow that.

Langer got the yips as they say, the solution was this new putting tool and style, is he a better golfer for it? I dont think he is, even though I like the bloke. Making allowances for people who lose the ability to putt isnt really the best route for golf to me.

I think the "just lock it in place and swing it" description is a touch simplistic. It still takes a keen eye and a steady nerve to make putts under that pressure and with the speed and nuances of the greens they play on. You still have to be able to read the greens correctly and start the ball on the right line whatever fashion you use to do so

thats why i asked my question about putting the ball like a snooker player.

USGA banned the use of a pool cue as a putter in 1895 after a Richard Peters reportedly used his putter in that manner during the first US Amateur Championship - apparently!!

Yes, but every other club in the bag looks similar. The long putter stands out as something different. Different grip, different stance, different swing. It isn't a golf stroke as we know it, and as such is no different from hitting it like a croquet stroke. Wrong.

Can't they just give every player the same clubs and see who comes out best. OK so they would have different specs but they same model, same wedges, same putter and ball etc, just like the A1 motor racing in which every team has the same car, engine etc.

I think thats a great idea to discover who is actually the best golfer, give them all a year to get used to the kit and see who's the daddy!

Wait! Haven't we just destroyed the entire golf market place? :D
