We played the first round of the county club comp today at St Austell GC.
After waiting for a thunderstorm to pass we got underway, even though the storm felt a bit close to get going.
As it was a foursomes match my partner took odds and I took evens. The lads teed off in terrible weather as the rain continued to lash down as it was driven at us by strong winds but they both hit good tee shots and we were away.
Our opponents lost their ball on the second shot and we took the hole with relative ease, the second was halved while we won the third to go 2 up thru 3.
Our opponents were struggling off the ground with their second, third and frequently fourth shots as they play on a par 3 course and don't have to play long fairway shots.
After halving the fourth it started to get a little embarrassing as we took the next SEVEN holes to win 9 and 7.
We won the match 3-2 and we are into the second round for the first time in years. Great day, nice course and fantastic company even when their game fell apart.

It's hard to know what to say to be honest so you don't sound patronising.
What you say is unimportant- as you opponent will be sobbing quietly and won't hear you.

Surpised that a Par three club would want to compete in a format that required use of a wood off the ground!
