Today I played in the Turkey shoot at Saddleworth golf club.

Saddleworth is up in the Pennines to the east of Oldham, it is very exposed and not really a course you would want to play when the weather is adverse, I have done it, it not pleasant.

Had it been any other day this week, the comp would have probably been a miserable experience, but today, the recent wind and rain stopped, the sun came out, the views are great. It was glorious and I couldn't think of a nicer place to be.

Golf can take you to some lovely places and today, Saddleworth was right up there.

As for my golf, well it was nothing special, but for once it really didn't matter.

Isn't that the one with the par 5 that can be hit in one?

Bear in mind I've only played there once and haven't seen it done, but I read it on a review site where someone had.

It is a par 5 with a dogleg fairway that turns right and runs severely downhill and there is a small gap between two biggish bunkers. Although I didn't do it, I could see that if it was dry and the fairway had been cut you could bounce down all the way.

Honest to god, lar.

No LB, there are only 3 par 5s for the chaps, the 1st and 18th which are both fairly flat and the 14th which has a bit of an elevated tee but most of the hole is close to flat

lol.....
Ive seen a big hitter hit a 400 yard drive our par 5 7th hole....(medal tees)..downhill particularly the last third, slight dogleg left to right with trees/danger right. He took the trees on with a draw, fantastic shot you cant see where it lands until you have walked 300 yards plus from the tee.....I asked him to do it again as I had never seen a drive like it at that hole and also to prove to a 'naive'golfer like me it wasn't a fluke......he repeated the shot exactly the same,5 yards behind his 1st shot...The length is 500 yards and the last 50 yards semi rough.....It was the best LIVE drive ive ever seen.....

some ex captain from wearside got a hole on one on that hole yes a par 5 at garesfield he hits a massive slice so that's how he got it in on that hole
