Wet phone

I had an accident with my mobile phone, dropped it in the bath but my daughter managed to retrieve it within a couple of seconds. It's a Samsung S4.Will it be possible to work again or is that it? Cheers in advance for any assistance.

Dry it out slowly, put it in a bag with some rice and leave it for a few days. then try it and see if it still lives.

Can you take the battery out? If so do it asap, and either way and leave the phone overnight in a bag of rice

Take battery out immediately and throw the whole lot in a bag of rice in a warm cupboard for a couple of days and hope for the best.

Cheers lads. my wife told me the same and I've just tried it and it seems to be working but a few parts of the touch screen not, so I'll leave it in airing cupboard for a day or two.

I done this with an old phone a few years back. Took it apart and sat it on the radiator, worked fine afterwards.

Get a big bowl of uncooked rice, stick the phone in it and leave in the airing cupboard. Voila!

Be patient. Leave it 48 hours in the rice before even trying to turn it on.

Is it insured either on its own or via you house contents insurance?

There is a 50:50 chance it will be OK.

Its usually the screen that is affected - you can buy replacement screens via Ebay and they are reasonably easy to fit. A 'You-tube' search will probably bring up a few geeks that will walk you through the process.

Assuming the bath water had soap in it so I'm going to suggest something really strange if just drying it out doesn't work.

Take the phone and submerge in isopropyl alcohol for an hour or two (at least 90% preferably 99.9%). This should clean any residue left behind from soaps, hard water etc. Remove and let it dry again.

I doubt it'll be 100% you'll start to notice a couple of things not working then eventually it'll just stop working.

Insure it now then make a claim m after 30 days.

Don't even start on that one! Apparently they are water resistant, not waterproof!

My 'waterproof phone' got water damaged. o2 & Sony denied liability under the warranty - which baffled me no end considering one of the main USPs of the phone was to take it underwater. The advertising campaign had photos of it submerged! I could've claimed on insurance through my bank account but the principle of it prevented me, plus the appalling customer service I received from o2 meant I ended up sending a very long email to the UK CEO of o2. Quickly had a response from an 'Executive Relations Manager' - and a 5 minute phone call later I had a free new phone with 2 box tickets to an event @ the o2

Be careful claiming in insurance, many do not cover for water damage!!

If claiming on your insurance be careful with the time scales of when it happens and when you claim, some only allow you to claim within 48 hours for something like water damage, mechanical breakdown is normally covered but again they can be funny if this was because of it being dropped in water and claim was more than xxx hours previous.

My sony has been fully submegred many times, no problems at all. When its gets grubby I wash it under the tap
