Can anybody recommend a brand/model of golf shoe that is actually waterproof? I have tried most of the market leaders and suffered leaks from split welds and cracks in the sole underneath the cleats within 2 or 3 years of purchase. Most disappointing is the water that somehow gets in just by walking through wet, ankle deep rough.

Buy waterproof socks.

I don't think any shoe is going to be waterpoof for more than a year, given that I often play 5 times a week.

I've found over the years that the more care and attention you give your shoes the better they'll perform. I had a pair of dryjoys which were ten years old and only started cracking this year. If they got wet I'd pack them with newspaper and let them dry for afew days and then polish and dub them. Worked a treat.

I do this with all my shoes and most seem to last at least two or three except my Hi Tec's which leaked like a government mole within a year

Footjoys every time for me. A couple of years ago the mrs bought me a pair of Adidas which had flag of a country ebroidered on the heel. Cost £100 and the worst pair of shoes I have ever had.

For pretty much all of my golfing life (twenty years +) I've sworn by Footjoys. Comfortable, they have the look (classic I grant you but non-offensive) and I've never walked off with wet feet and I've played in weather similar to the stuff you see on 'deadliest catch'..... :(

No shoe is going to stop your socks getting wet while walking through the rough. Its the dampness getting onto your trousers and then hitting your socks that does it.
Simple answer - don't hit it in the rough :p :p

Play the RGDave way.....avoid the rough and avoid wet feet.

t.b.h. I've not had a problem with wet feet in either my cheap greenjoys or lightweight hi-tecs.
I had some stylos for 5 years that never leaked....

3-5 years? I expect 2 seasons out of mine, surely they cant look too good after 5 seasons of wet/dry/wet/dry etc etc.

Yes, that pair did do very well, but I looked after them particularly well. I've had the same greenjoys for 2 years now and only other than a quick wipe-down, they look ok.

t.b.h. 2 years out of a £50 pair can't be bad if you play a lot.

I already have the next pair lined up in the wardrobe....

My greenjoys are starting to show a little wear across the creases mid foot. I play usually 7 times a month in the good weather and 10 times maybe in the off seasons, they get a good blow down after each round but get no other special care. Golf shoes undergo more severe situations and conditions than shoes, I dont mind paying 50-90 quid bi-annually really.

I think adidas have a pair of shoes that would sort out the problem in the rough, they're a bit like boots and not the most stylish shoes but they should keep out the water. Are you asking a bit much of your shoes to be fully waterproof after 2 or 3 years?

I had greenjoys for almost 2 years and recently the crease lines cracked, but I got 2 good years out of them and they're excellent value.
