I mean on paper he isn't, watching him play over this season and then be out for 6 weeks and return in even better form. I think he will beat Stricker tomorrow, if not it will be a massive blow for Europe and Monty is taking a chance but I think Westy can produce the goods.

That said I have been very impressed with some of the young fellas from the States.

Tiger has done rock all this season. Lefty is right out of sorts (pun intended) so yes Westy is playing well enough to be World number 1

Just shows how the World wanking system is behind the times

Fragger (I need spelling lessons)

Westwood's putting this Ryder Cup is astonishingly good. i think he has putted as well as Tiger used to - there is never any doubt that he will miss anything under 10 to 15 feet, and even longer ones he is sinking.

His approaches are wonderful; his driving is up among the best.

And he just looks so focussed, yet able to swtich teh focus off and smile

No wonder he is knocking at No1 - given that he had a career dive down to the 300s, he seriously deserves to get to No1.

I think he can beat Stricker tomorrow but I expect it to go all the way. Stricker is a fighter but I hope Westwood can tap into all he's learned coming so close in majors and produce THE round tomorrow and get us off to a flyer.

Bearing in mind how much of the end of the year and major points Westwood missed and how he played almost on one leg (not quite like Tiger) prior to that it is conceivable that next year he could get there especially if Woods is still as erratic form wise as he has been this season

Yep hes been playing out of his mind and he may well have been No.1 without the lay off.

Westwood can win tomorrow, but I do get the feeling that he is more comfortable playing with a partner.

He's a class act and would be fully deserving of the No. 1 spot. Hopefully he'll crack a major soon.

I may need to re-think this thread now....

I don't think so. He's still played pretty solidly today. Just the odd shot that has cost him. He's hardly getting schooled. Steve Stricker is playing some inspired golf.

Westwood has done his part this week.

His team mates will see him right. (well, not Martin Kymer!)

Not for the 1st time Dodger, a load of old shite. Get off your celtic grudge and accept it.

Westwood was solid as you like but Stricker just played awesome golf over the last third.
