Westwood and Foley part....?

Some interesting discussion on the Sky Golf last night. It seems that Foley was trying to get Westwood into positions he didn't feel comfy with and struggled to get into. Not sure how true this is but would make a degree of sense. I think he'll end up going back to his previous coach and with Foster on the bag he'll have the old team around him again. I still think unless he sorts the chipping and putting he'll struggle to move forward. Let's not forget though he dipped to several hundred and something in the world and then got back to number one so he may just be able to get there again

maybe Foley's real name is folly,he's an accident waiting to happen, all you need is a Canadian teaching you how to play golf, curling yes, golf its a no no..

I'd have to agree that it's not one of your most sensible posts!

Edit: I've just checked a few of your previous posts. Maybe it is!

I don't like Woods swing either. Top and bottom look so disconnected... all chop and lunge... looks so unnatural.

Westwood needs to get his old caddy back and a good short game coach and putter , then work on his game and hope he gets into contention to win a big one again , tee to green he is fine , its when he misses the green that his stats don't add up to major winners standard , look at the great major winners , Nickalaus , great putter , Player , great bunker player , seve , simply the best , Woods , best putter in his time , made almost all his must make putts , I could go on , the stats of those players don't lie .........................EYG

He's never had what anyone would call an 'elegant' swing! Always been more what I would call a 'slash'!

McIlroy doesn't seem to have one that can last either. Another few years and his Back is likely to start giving him grief imo.

Seems to be a confidence thing with Westwood at times. Just not sparkling down the stretch whereas others do!

!

Suggest you look at Tiger's swing from 2000 'v' 2013. The 2000 swing facing and down the target line was well balanced and in plane. The current one is seen every Sunday on the 1st tee at your club. It resembles an Octypus putting on a sweater in a phone box.

I'd gladly have Tiger's old swing for 10yrs... his record, and winnings, do the talking.

Indeed, a lot more power driven now, understandable to 'stay ahead'. and supposedly easier on the knee.

Winnings were because he was a quantum leap ahead of the others back then. Not the case any more! If he'd kept that swing, he'd struggle to make cuts these days - if he could walk! Like you though, I'd take his Harmon swing!

But check out Driver and 3-wood swings then and now. When he wanted to give it a bit extra back then, it still looked a something of a controlled slash!

Back to Westwood though. I was always a bit puzzled why he went to Foley in the first place. The basic swing was fine - certainly great Tee to Green. It was/is a Short Game coach the he needs!

Uncharacteristically over the last season would say it was his long game that was giving him the most trouble, his stats say he was much less accurate from the tee, and much fewer greens in reg. Ironically it was his short game that had improved.

Read somewhere recently he'd said he thought his long game had suffered since his move to 'The Palm' (Ray Floyd's Club) as he'd spent far more time on practicing his short game at "Palms" short game practice area and not so much full swing work. He's been in Florida around a year now.
Struck me when I've looked at his long game he's got a bit tilted and stuck on his left side and a lot too steep.

Who does Westwood go to now for short game. Hasn't he tried most of the top coaches and Mark Roe

Went from Cowan to Foley

Will no doubt go back to Cowan

Believe he hasn't had a short game coach as such ( like Roe )

Seriously do these pros actually need a swing coach? Isn't their natural ability enough?

Well I guess that could be valid for most sports

Natural ability is great - but it needs tuned to get the best output possibly

Fair point. Personally I just think people make this game a lot harder than it should be.
But I'm crap so hey ho.

And that point is also a fair point

Some people do make it harder instead of just being a bit more natural - but they keep club pros busy
