I am due to play here on Friday and was wondering if anyone has played there and can give me any reviews/ hints etc.

Had a look online for the course layout however haven't come across anything at all.

Very long walk and will still be very wet at this time of year. Unless you're 18 or in training for some sort of marathon or triatholon, get a buggy.

Good layout, designed and opened by Seve:thup:

However, its been in terrible condition for years due to drainage issues I believe, real shame as could have been a good course.

N.B I havent been there for years so maybe its better now-

Some decent holes and a pretty fair layout., but its a much maligned course due to it being very wet underfoot for a good part of the season.

I actually quite like it though as a course.. there's a couple of fairly lengthy walks between holes but I wouldn't say its a slog particularly. They've seemingly been working on the drainage problems, but whether they've managed to improve it any is something I can't say, as I haven't played the course in more than a year.

Played the course a few times. Last summer being the most recent. As said its a bit wet under foot. Some great laid out holes. One hole i despise on the course. Im sure its the 12th. So out of place compared to the rest of the course. We got a buggy the last time we played it. Push trolleys would be fine though

Played there last year and hated it! Long, wet course and with a large group out in front took us nearly 5.50 hours to get round!

on top of that the cost of a bacon roll and a brew is extorniate !

However hope you enjoy and the weather is great up here at the moment :)

Great layout but they always seems to struggle with drainage issues. Shame really had so much potential.

Ditto.

Played it once, towards the end of a wet spell in summer. Very, very wet - lost a couple of balls plugged in fairways. Worth a visit if its in a dry spell but not otherwise.

I was a junior there, cut my teeth at the course, worked in the shop and got to know it well.

Now I believe it has been altered since I left all those years ago however most if not all posted above is correct.

It will play long, the drainage is dire. It was poorly installed (as I was told) as the course overan budget and time. It wasn't uncommon in my day to lose a ball in the middle of the fairway as it would plug so far I think it'd reach the centre of the earth :). Missing the fairway by any huge margin is generally punished hard, oor was in my day :(. Long rough, unkept or sodden made it a slog when you didn't hit it well.

Some of the nicer holes are early in the round, but quite long. The 6th is Seve's Trap (if I mind right) all Seve designed on it was the front left bunker greenside. Dave Thomas designed 99% of the course. Laura Davies designed the 13th Lauras Pond. Better go long and right if you have to miss the green. Short and/or left is in the drink. The 14th is a par 5 but if the course isn't playing to unkind can be made in two.The 15th is a great par 3 into the cliffs, the walk to the 16th is epic. You have been warned :)!

Could do a course guide as I played it so much back in the day. When I first joined, it was reasonably well maintained and was a good course. U21 Assistants tournie was there for a few years. However a few owners went bust in succession and the course never got the money spent it desperately needed.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. Playing on Friday so I expect it will be wet as courses aren't quite drying out up here yet. Looking forward to it none the less. It's a shame it hasn't reached it's potential by all accounts.

It shouldn't be too wet. Been dry here for a good week. I'm just soon the road and course has dried out well since a fortnight ago.

Wouldn't worry about a buggy either. Never found it a particularly tough walk.

I got my round on Friday and played well short of a few disasters! Must say I loved the course. I can see how it has drainage issues but in honesty it was pretty dry other than the heavy rough which was wet.

Some beautiful holes to play, quite a lot of water which, having played it once, I think I could plot my way around a bit better and save myself a few shots!
