Hello,
It's Me again :)

Im soon to be making Huddersfield my new home and with how much i have enjoyed my golf the past 4 weeks im looking at joining a club within about 15 minute drive of me.

So i need some help on what to consider.
My choices are :
Crossland Heath Golf Club
Outlane Golf Club
Bradley Park
Halifax Bradley Park
Elland Golf Club.

Slightly further but still possible if they are good courses etc.
Willow Valley Golf Club
Cleackheaton Golf Club
Meltham Golf Club
I know i should play and see what i like but with me been 25 i could almost pay for a membership at some of the courses for slightly more than playing all 7 courses individually.

Anyone members and can hook me up with a cheaper round or sway me to join ;)

cheers
Ryan

If you approach most courses and say you are considering joining they will invite you to have a round for free (albeit this is Yorkshire, so not sure that will hold!)

Hi Ryan.
Where to begin?

Crosland Heath, one of the best courses in Huddersfield. A cracking view on every hole. Only problem is, when the weathers bad you know about it on the Heath.

Outlane. Cheaper membership but a lot of hilly holes and blind shots.

Bradley Park. A muni but a cracking course. May struggle to get a tee time due to the many pay and players who roll up.

Halifax Bradley Hall. The fastest greens anywhere round here. Front 9 a touch of moorland, back 9 parkland course. Card wrecking par 3 18th. Done me many times!

Elland. Not too far from Bradley Hall but it's a 9 holer. Prepare to park your car on the roadside if you have a later tee time on comp day. The car park just ain't big enough!

If you need any more info, just shout.

You're welcome to have a game with me at cleck if you fancy. Membership costs aren't on the website but I think there is a sliding scale up to 28. I just missed it being 29.

Crosland Heath is a good track.

Huddersfield (Fixby) is probably the best quality track in the area. Great springy turf and awesome mega fast greens. It ain't cheap though.

As has been mentioned Outlane is very hilly with a few blind shots and shared fairways, I think it gets quite foggy too.

Bradley Park is a nice course, a good loop of 10 holes brings you back to the clubhouse so good for evenings. However it is where a lot off pay and play golfers go and can struggle to get a tee time at a weekend I think.

I think any savings you make at Willow Valley will be spent buying new balls with the amount of water around. I think it has a few courses to choose from though.

I'm a member at Dewsbury District, but I'm guessing given the courses you've mentioned it'll be a bit far out, doesn't have any cheap age bands either.

If you joined Willow Valley would you be able to play the 3 courses?

Get out there and play the course's, get a feel for the clubhouse and facilities I'd say.

Only course worth playing at Willow Valley is the main one, and even that's gone downhill over the years imo. Looked like it was gonna be a really decent (if very American) track when it was built but last couple of times I've played it the condition has been garbage. They never close the courses due to bad weather, they really should. Newer Pine Valley course is trash, and the old 9 hole is alright for beginners but nowt else.
