99% of us are, i'd imagine, suckers for the lure of shiny new equipment and a dream for golf manufacturers marketing depts.

Whether its the driver guaranteed to give us an extra 30 yards, the irons that will hit the exact shot you want on demand, the putter you can't miss with etc etc.

So, whats been your best and worst purchase(s) of golf gear?

I struggle to resist buying putters and any of a handful could be my worst purchase. All of which were going to turn me into a putting god in my head and in reality were rubbish. Regardless what kind it was there was still the same knob holding it!

Best would have to be my cleveland irons, one time when the head actually won over the heart!

Best purchase - Ping G15 driver, worst purchase - white coffee from the Pro Shop vending machine.

the best purchase for me has been the new TM Microlite bag, ive purchased alot over the last 18 months, New irons, wedges, woods, drivers, new r11 driver this weekend, new putters (3 over the last 12 months), but im honest when i say this bag is awesome.

regarding my worst purchase it has to be Mcwets wet weather golf gloves. total waste of money!

Best - Cobra S2 Max irons. Going to an SGI iron helped highlight my inconsistencies and helped me get the thing in the air.

Worst - Dunlop driving iron. So, so, so bad.

Best ping g15 irons fitted......
Worst, the million drivers I have had in the last 2 years, going from a Nike sasquatch, titleist 909, to callaway diablo, to an ft iz, to a Taylor made burner to a g15..... All in 2 years !

Best - my TP irons - a steal price wise and awesome feel to them
Worse - TM Rossa spider AND its Itsy cousin. Ugly things I thought would be the great putting saviours and left me heartbroken like so many before and since

A man after my own heart with the putters homer!

At least there's not a chipper in there to regret......

Best is a toss up between my S59s and my R9 driver.

Worst is my Ping latitude V2 stand bag which has just been boxed up and sent back to where it came from because it has started to unstitch where the strap attaches to the side of the bag - and this is the 2nd one in 14 months that has had the same problem

i had the TM Rossa inza and it wasnt a bad putter, yes it was butt ugly, but on medium to slow greens it was awesome, just lacked feel on fast summmer greens. now the new rossa i have just got, that is one amazing piece of kit.

My joint best is my Powakaddy Twinline 3 trolley, and my TM Penta ball that was my first ever ball to complete a round with me all the way and is proudly displayed in my trophy cabinet (none for golf). My worst was my pga electronic scorer which I cant operate with my sausage fingers in my glove.

Best for me, my Callaway Hawkeye VFT driver which really improved my driving. At the time it was expensive at £190 and the head looked enormous but now it looks positively tiny. Saw a bloke on the range on Saturday smashing balls to the back fence with one. Replaced with a GBB II 415 which I also think is a great club.

Also my Odyssey Dual Force Rossie, really gave me confidence on short putts.

Finally my old Mizuno TP21s. Not the prettiest iron Mizuno ever produced but my faithful companions for 12 years. Now retired to the broom cupboard. Lovely feel and very forgiving for what they were.

No bad things really. Many years ago I did struggle with a MacGregor Muirfield persimmon driver that I bought for its looks but then I'm not Jack Nicklaus so I shouldn't be surprised. Note for younger forummers - persimmon is a wood - it's what woods used to be made of. :)

I still own all of the above :)

Best buy - Yonex 3i 3 wood - boom, and the ball is gone.

Worst buy - Dunlop gear in general, 65i grahite complete set and 2xhybrids from sports direct. These are only the worst buy becuase of what they are now I play golf on a regular basis. They are however special to me as these got me started and to where I am today.

Worst buy now I know better is my Wilson Blackjack 7 Putter

Best: Was on a golf society trip to Clitheroe. I took a couple of clubs out to try in the morning as I was in the market for a new one (the one I had was going to be non conforming that winter). Hit it well and bought it there and then, real impulse buy. That was 5 years ago this July and it's still in the bag and hitting it better than ever with no plans to change anytime soon.

Worst: Bought a 5 wood brand new, again on an away trip last year. It was in the bag for 3 rounds. Hit it about 10 times in total and only one of those was a half decent shot. It's still for sale.

I have been through more golf gear than I dare imagine, best buys have been my FT-9 driver, my Fontana Putter, my Orca gap wedge and my Go-Kart (depsite my temptation to carry again). These must be the best as they have all been in the bag for a while with no risk of them leaving.

Worst purchases, Burner driver when I first started out (fell for all of the hype but stood no chance of controling it with the really long shaft), an Alien lob wedge (no idea why I bought that) and a bx of Hippo titanium golf balls (actually hurt on impact)

Best Mizuno mp52's, should see out my golfing career !

Worst Ram Zebra putter in the 70's. Only mallet type putter i ever had, and it was gastly. Only ever had three other putters, ping anser, wilson blade, and odyssey no.1.
