Was there today with Taylormade for a customer group session, had nice day, talking about products, followed by a clinic from Richard bland and smon khan, followed by a small bag of goodies. Shame no round on one of the courses though!!! The place was packed, how do people get to play Wentworth without being a member or paying the £360 green fee!! I want to the the West so much!!!! Great day and got to see the new TM driver, the SLDR. Pretty nice!!

Its bloody expensive unless you got friends in the know. My brother the lucky swine has a friend that works there as part of the TM fitting team and is one of the assistant pro's there. Luke I believe is his name and he gets my brother on for a quarter of the price problem is even at that much HID would frown upon it!

Your best bet is to know a member who you can play with as a guest.

I know a pro through my club who has been a member at Wentworth for years. He signs people in there from time to time and its around £100 mark this route.

Luke fitted me for my clubs! nice guy! knows his shizzle!

I still have the bag tag on my bag from Wentworth, its the only one its ever going to see unless i get a corporate jolly! £20 a hole is a bit much for me! i am nearer a pound a hole kinda guy!

Ive been lucky enough to play Wentworth West a couple of time but under a Corporate invite. Personally I think its over rated and many think the East course is better. £360 a round is a rip off and completely out of cink with other better laid out and more exclusive golf clubs locally. The greens at Wentowrth were appalling on both occasions and it wasn't set up or presented well either. If Id had paid a full green fee id still be wanting my money back!

There is lots of better and more welcoming courses locally and offer better value in my opinion.

:sbox: The thing is because its set in leafy Surrey where the average house price is probably £700k :o and because it hosts the PGA then they can get away with it even in this economic climate. But I think this is exactly what's wrong with golf at the moment. With memberships falling massively by the day, over charging and stuffy membership criteria and therefore excluding most normal people from being able to play these courses needs to change. Only being able to play top level courses because you have a good connections is just pants and not overly welcoming to newcomers to the sport. Its worth a round though but Id say £80 -£100 is a fair reflection of its standard and a meal and a pint in the bar afterwards is always pleasant. St Andrews is cheaper to play isnt it? The Brabazon when set up nicely and not over used is a similar but cheaper option.

Agreed, £360 is a crazy price, even if I had the money I couldn't justify spending on 3 hours playing!! Yesterday the place was packed!! Just couldn't believe they had all payed! You can play both courses at Sunningdale for less than a round around the West!!

I paid £2.50 per shot for my 88 blows round there a few years back!

Their philosophy is that by being cheap (?) they get too much traffic on the West Course, so, they hike the price to put off the excess pay and players but still rake in the revenue that they want as there are always people who will pay

Thats probably the case yes - American/ Japanese tourists etc love the place but to be honest I think its v short sighted and doing them more damage than good long term. Most people I know in the game don't rate the place and the fact its a rip off (even if you have lots of cash to burn) puts it in a poor light and reflects badly on the game/club.

That's exactly the philosophy as far as I can see.

That £360 also gets you a Caddie, though add £20 (at least) tip and anything between £2 and £5 for his half-way house refreshment. The £80 guest fee is definitely the way to go - or bid in Captain's Charity Auctions if you can't blag a Corporate invite! Greens are unique! They also keep them well protected - aka slow - before the PGA.

If you want quick, true greens. Try either of the other 2 courses. Shows what they can do when not controlled by the Tour!

East is a pleasant course, on the best land, that could be so much better with proper TLC. It gets hammered! View from the second tee rivals that of the 10th of Sunningdale Old! Par 3s are another pretty good Colt set (not as good as those of The West though!). 18th is the best finishing hole on the complex!

South/Edinburgh is a really good course too. Too many doglegs for some, but that 'future-proofs' it imo. Back 9 is just a great series of tests! One of the toughest finishing holes I know too - getting on the green in 2 is no guarantee the score won't be a 6!

I saw a few of the East course greens when I went to the PGA and the only word to describe them is shocking! If I was a member there I would be absolutely livid, they were virtually unplayable they were so bad.

Regarding the West green fee, it is another massively over-hyped course and certainly not worth the money. There are courses nearby that are far superior for much less (although still a lot) of money.

I have a friend who lives at Wentworth and is a member there. I have played all the courses several times with him and the West is my least favourite. Overhyped, ridiculously poor value for money and worsened by the Els changes. It is nice to watch on TV though and remember the holes that you have played.

Not in the same league as Sunningdale. Not even close. Wentworth is corporate and Sunningdale is a really welcoming members club.

Sadly, if I offer places to customers at both, they always want to go to Wentworth. :(

I played the West at Easter through a mate's corporate membership so didn't pay. I've actually played all 3 courses there on freebies and the East and Edinburgh are every bit as good. It was nice to play the West as it's good to walk it the footsteps of the Pros but not sure it is worth the extra money they charge. It was also not in great nick when we played, the greens were awful which even considering the weather we were having at the time was a surprise (I'm not lying when I say that our greens at RAGC were in better condition). Great experience though.

Can I be a customer of yours?? Haha

Same for me. I played it on a corporate day, nice to experience, but no way worth the green fee. Actually, all the Tour courses that I have played have underwhelmed me. I think once they start adding yardage to make them huge, the original character and charm is gone.

He fitted my brother for all his recently as well FOC lucky git even got all the gear at trade price as a result of his knowing Luke. They are playing the West in a couple of weeks and taking my old man down as a birthday present getting him on the course to a fraction of the cost. Wish I could get the time off to join them, just wouldn't tell HID where that missing £80 went!
