Been lucky enough to swing an invite to play here through work at the end of the month. Has anyone played it? Is it as good as The West??

Big issues at Wentworth

The greens are the worst I have ever seen there by a country mile - Edinburgh isn't as bad as the west though

Understand the place has been bought by a Chinese businessman and lots of talk of PGA moving

played both about 2 years ago so cant comment on condition now. As its free, take the opportunity and enjoy the whole experience, the heritage, the prestige of the venue etc. But if you were having to pay for it, then there are better courses for the money.

Way to 01ss on someone else's chips!

Karaoke should be good after the round though Andy! And it's a day off work. Have a good one

I played the Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago and the greens were perfect. I've played the course a few times now and I've always enjoyed it. Never been fortunate enough to play the west so can't compare.

Really. Wow!! Ive played the West before, a long time ago and really enjpyed it. It doesnt float everyones boat but it was in perfect nick. I recall the pros not being too happy at the PGA now you mention it.

Its a freebie day so i'll just roll with it. Surprised its been sold though!!

For free it's a no brainier

One of our PP has corporate membership there ( Hilton Hotels ) but they are cancelling next year to move to Woburn

Not sure how concrete the talk of selling is but when we played the other week it seemed a hot topic

The greens on the west considering they were newly laid recently were very bad

The Edinburgh is a very good course. There are a couple of holes where you benefit from having played before, so a stroke saver might be a good idea but overall you should like it.

Off the Whites, Edinburgh is a great test and very tough! Off the Yellows, long hitters can suffer in comparison to we short-hitters as there are quite a few instances where there is no benefit having the extra length - as hazards of various sorts either don't come into play, or the hole is such that a Driver is not required. There are 6 serious Dog-Legs and others where Heather, Ditches or Running out of Fairway mean long driving isn't needed/recommended. The Par 5 7th seems to turn right forever - though it actually simply wraps around the (dogleg left) 6th!

Greens are traditionally really good, both fast and true - as are those on the East, a course that, if it didn't get so hammered, could the most interesting. Different grass to The West (which is really just a long slog, but in the footsteps of champions!), so not the issues that course has.

Edinburgh's 17th is the prettiest Par 3 on the 3 courses, though 5 is gorgeous if the sun is behind (make sure you know where that pin is and take plenty of club); 18th is the hardest finishing hole of the 3 courses (though I prefer The East's 18th). Make sure you are on the same tier as the pin and definitely best to be below the hole!!

Enjoy!

Yep its a good course, i like all 3. Prefer the East and West to the Edinburgh as every hole seemed to be a dogleg, but its still a cracking course! You'll enjoy.

Nah. Give it to him hard!!

It appears though that I have my wires crossed

It was bought by Chinese business last year and the talk is of them making changes in regards the PGA and membership there

I've only played the Edinburgh and west and I preferred the Edinburgh for the condition. Greens are immaculate.
The greens on the west are not the best but you will not be disappointed with the condition of the course you'll be playing. I'm up there next week for a round and already excited about it!

The Edinburgh is longer than the West.....

We don't let facts get in the way on here...

That it also has significantly more doglegs that require long tee shots, and a few other factors that means it plays harder for the average handicap golfer, are also irelevant :)

Edinburgh was built as a replacement for the challenged Burma Road course when it became apparent that this wasn't the challenge that the future professional golfer required. It never really bedded in to that role and, the love that many had for the West (Burma Road) meant that it eventually got the investment and changes needed to maintain it as an appropriate challenge for a tour event.

For the average handicap golfer the East is the best course by far, the West for the experience and the Edinburgh for a challenge. The greens on each are completely differently structured - when well presented they each have merit for what they are.
