Had the pleasure of playing Welwyn Garden City GC today with Imurg & CVG, hosted by that all round good egg Arnold Armchewer

Situated close to the A1 north of Hatfield, it is easily accessible by road
We arrived hoping for a bacon buttie, but the kitchens dont open until 10, However the halfway hut is only 200 yards away and the lady there , Sue does the bestest bacon rolls in christendom, also very good price, 3 rolls and a cuppa for a fiver. Happy Days

The par 70 course is very pretty, certainly undulating, but not a slog at all, its not long at 6069 off the whites (where we played from) or 5854 off the yellows, 5 par 3's, 10 par 4's and 3 par 5's.but every hole is a different challenge, with excellent bunkering and use of the natural topography, founded in the late 1920s it is a lovely mature parkland course.

It can be tight in places but an accurate tee shot is rewarded well, the greens are in very good condition and true, quite fast in places, especially if the pin position is on a slope

A second visit to the halfway hut after the front 9 confirmed our opinion of the bacon rolls

We played on a dry sunny day with light winds, for early April and considering the wet winter, the course was in immaculate condition,

In short, a course you can have a lot of fun on, I just wish it was on my doorstep

Thanks again to Arnold Armchewer (Steve) for hosting, a proper gent

Echo that and a big:thup::cheers: to Steve for the day.

Shame much of the golf didn't match the banter but you can't have everything

Just a little info snippet - Colin Callander (a previous encumbent of MikeH's chair) is a Director at the Club...

Dunno, I was quite happy with my 31 points, err how many did you get bro? was it 22 :) :) Although you did beat me on gross scores........................by 3 :)

Played there for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
In superb condition- the fairways looked like only greenstaff and not golfers had been allowed on them for the past 6 months.

Chaps, it was a real pleasure to play with you today, golf should be about great company as much as anything, and I certainly couldn't have asked for a better group today, you even managed to contain yourselves when I 'allegedly' drove my ball into my bag, 20 years of leaving it there and never come close before, Imurg casually says on the way to the tee 'are you sure that wont be in the way?', two minutes later boom and I have hit it.

Fraggers bunker play was up there with the best, twice he hit world class shots (shame about the resulting putt(s), but hey).

Ians new driver was well ............................................ good in the end.

Colin was a dark horse and sneakily going along notching up a respectable score.

Happy days, golf as it should be played.
