A small party of 8 of us are off in a couple of weeks to play the two course at the Vale Hotel Resort, the Welsh National and The Lakes course. Has any one played these courses and what is the place like.

The Vale resort is nice enough - everything you need really and very close to the M4. (though I believe it's not to cheap for drinks in the club house). Play can be slow as it's a hotel - resort - and mebers club.

Of the 2 courses the Lakes is probably the more user friendly and varied. Good par 3 to start and some strong par 4's. Condition of the course is generally very good.

The national can be a bit of a slog in all honesty. Long course and long between greens + tees. A lot of the members I know prefer the Lakes to play day in day out. Greens are all good though and it is suposedly an 'American' style course.

Well stocked pro shop - though www.golfbuyitonline.co.uk is literally only 2 minutes away.

You should have a great time and it's close enough to Cardiff for some sightseeing etc.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks John. Really looking forward to it. We played the 2 courses at the Forest of Arden last year and that was slow, but hey we'll in no hurry, so long as it isn't pouring with rain.

So breakfast, round of golf, glass of beer (or 2) a quick visit to pool, shower, a couple of more drinks and some good food with some good company. Sounds like three days of heaven to me.
