Just in case anyone was wondering, I found out yesterday morning that no matter how hard you try, it isn't possible to play to 9 when you have SEVEN double bogies on your card. I'm not quite sure what was going on but it went like this...

Front: Double, double, birdie, birdie, double, double, double, bogey, par
Back: Birdie, birdie, bogey, par, par, par, par, double, double
Gross: 82, Points: 33

So 7 doubles, 2 bogies, 5 pars and 4 birdies

Anyone else beat that for a strange round of golf?

Not quite as bad, but last weeks medal saw me hit 6 doubles and a single, coupled with 2 birdies and 9 pars. It just seemed that every bad shot resulted in a double. Looking back, I think I played as well as I ever have in a comp, but hit 6 bad shots all round. Strange game....

Well I was at least consistently poor 2 doubles, 14 bogeys and 2 pars. Generally 1 bad shot a hole, it was windy though :|

That's not too bad really, anyone can have the odd double or two. The main thing is you didn't have any card wreckers. This would have been 35 points? Decent score in windy conditions

Yeah I'm hoping it makes top 10 due to the conditions, the guys I was playing with had 16,20 & 21 points. Just seemed like bogey was my par yesterday about 6 putts lipping out and some shambolic bunker play.

My last medal I had:

5 pars
5 bogeys
2 double bogeys
2 treble bogeys
1 quad
2 NR's

Horrendous scoring, but actually felt like I played golf for a part of it - horrifically hungover mind, sobered up...

Double, Treble, Par, Par, Par, Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Par - Happy.
Bogey, Bogey, Treble, NR, Double, NR, Par, Quadruple, Bogey - Sobering.

At least you got the birdies to balance it a bit....

I'm tending to bogey the first 4 or 5 and about 3 or 4 around the turn as well....just not getting many birdies..
Chuck in a couple of doubles and you can see why 35 points has been my best score of the year so far....

I played the front nine like this last week
Blob, blob, par, par, blob, par, par, bogey, bogey the back nine was less adventurous apart from 3 blobs

I literally coulda cried so inconsistent, awful play then faultless par golf , fuming

I played Formby hall and was 9 over and didn't have a bogey till the 14th hole. either par, double and one birdie up till then.

kinda strange that for me.

That's kind of how I feel, I played really well on the whole it was just one of those really strange days

What I saw of your ball striking yesterday it didn't look miles out and sounds like the double's were silly errors rather than a meltdown. It's exactly how I played the last stableford. Hit it very cleanly and couldn't score. Drove it badly (straight but short) yesterday and took the cash. Seems I can't have the ball strike and the score - YET

I hit the ball beautifully on Friday and Saturday. Saturday I just had one of those days, probably hit 7 bad shots all day and all ended up with doubles. I even hit a shank on 5. I've been over and over it in my head and I still can't find any rational reason to be unhappy with the round. If I hit the ball thqt well most weeks I'm shooting 75\76 at worst.

Feel your pain mate, played in my monthly medal yesterday, front 9 - 57 gross, back 9 - 37 gross, 20 shots difference:confused:
Please don't ask what happened on the front 9 because i'm not going to tell:o
