I played today in a Blackpool FC fans golf day at Garstang, 3/4 handicap so I was getting 11 shots, after not getting a shot on the 10th I looked at the card to see where the other 2 holes where I wouldn't get one and saw it was the 2 par 3s we still had to play. So on the first of them after just missing a putt for a 4 I picked up. We left the green and as I was writing my partners score in, I noticed that the hole was In fact stroke index 11 and that It was the hole after where I didn't get a shot, What a Numpty! I will pay far more attention in future on strange courses.

As it turned out I finished with 33 points, and the winner had 34, and I would have won on a card play off if only I had tapped in the 3 inch putt instead of picking up.

Still it was my own fault, so no complaints or moans and I was pleased that I played under my handicap.

I've done that (apart from the nearly winning bit) so now i always put mark clearly on card before I start. ditto on card I am marking.

Not good and a real shame. I circle my shot holes these days (part of NGT) and so I'm aware of where I get shots. I do tend to be more aware on away courses too not knowing the layout. Take heart you played so well. Did you get anything for 2nd?

Simple but effective. I'm going to do that myself from now on. Only thing is I get shots at all the holes usually, so I'll circle it where I get two shots.:D

Wayman, I have always been told to pick up if you can't score, (ok I could have but thought I couldn't)

Homer, I got a voucher from the pros shop so got half a dozen Pro Vs, arguely better than hospitality for a match at Bloomfield Rd, that was first prize.

On away courses I always circle shot holes. On my home course, in matchplay, I circle when giving or receiving shots. Foursomes k/o yesterday and giving 13 shots so circled the 5 non shot holes!!

The course wasn't bad, there are some nice holes where the rivers come into play, some of the bunkers could do with more sand in, its missing 150 posts, so GPS is a must, but the greens, although they look like a cord carpet run pretty true.
