On the first and only play off hole he hit a smashing wedge into the infamous 17th to a couple of feet having watched paul goydos find water short of the green. He managed to miss his two but holed out for a par 3 and rounded off a pretty good -1 round with at least 5 must make putts only missing one putt that I saw that should really have been closer.
Lots of exemptions for the fella now and hopefully on to bigger and better things.
During his speach he thanked Mr Woods for not attending as that always makes things a little easier. :D

What a result, I am dying at work I can hardly keep my eyes open! I have to be up at 5.30 and it didn’t finish until 13:00.

How good was it when his putting started to click, it was like a weight lifting off his shoulders.

Hopefully he will continue this form leading up to the Ryder Cup.

what a difference in attitude - one or two potential setbacks in Sergio's round but he knuckled down and fought back, great to watch. Poulter - thumping his putter into the green (ought to be a least a two-shot penalty. tennis has got that right with their 'abuse of equipment') and seemingly blaming everything and everybody except himself.

Well done to Segio but why did he give Woods a mention? Woods has only won this tournament once, back in 2001. The more they keep Tiger in their psyche the more difficult it will be to beat him.

Here is hoping for a new push from Mr Garcia when it comes to the Open.

Good to see him winning again, instead of complaining. I think he'll win the Open this year, he's been very close at Hoylake and Carnoustie so is due one.
Tee to green on links there's no-one better (ok maybe one!), if his putting continues to improve, which clearly it has, then he'll be close. Winning the TPC will give him a lot of confidence.

I don't care what the press say, Sergio will look back on this event in years to come and view it as his first Major win - the Players is the second hardest to win after the US Open, the field is better than any Major field and the course was a monster this week, the pro's know what the Players means to win. At 12.10 as Sergio was promising to snatch it I thought 'sod the clock, I'm watching this one' - and that wedge in extra time was worth the headache in the morning - what a pressure play, after the nightmare of Carnoustie - Garcia has arrived, a second coming, PLEASE god, let him win the Open this year!!! GET IN THERE SERGIO!

I know OldWindy, how good was it when he kissed his putter at the end! Been weighting so long to see him back to this sort of form.

How good was his driving over the 4 days!

He is for me one of the few players I would pay money to watch, has it all bar te putting but when you hit it as good as he does you are always liable to still hole a few, great to see as he is one of my favourites and has been since I saw him as an 18 year old win the Amatuer at Muirfield and he looked different class then, heres hoping there is more to come!
A word on Ian Poulter,I used to like this guy but his comments a couple of months back made me think otherwise and after every interview this week he has gone further down my liking....what a cocky *** blaming bad bounces etc for his poor scoring, the guy is an utter cock.

Somebody who makes Poulters bad behaviour look mild in comparison is 'Charley' Hoffman. This sweating, peuce cheeked, lank haird surf bum has been taking up way to much screen time lately and his petulance on Friday at the Players was too much. First he misses a short putt for par, then carelessly lips out the tap in tiddler for bogey by wafting at the ball while stood on one leg. He knocks in for a double and precedes to skim his $350 Scotty Cameron putter into the greenside lake and flounces off to the next tee with a display of world class headshaking and shoulder shrugging. This also ran is down there with Callillo Villelles or however L's are in his name and the growing flock of can't be arsed, make the cut and count the cash pan scrapings on the PGA tour. Its a bloody sham and when I read stats like Justin Rose with 0 PGA tour victories has already won more money in his career than Jack Nicklaus it makes me angry. As for Charley - he can just piss right Hoffman.

Sergio played very well yesterday. His driving is second to no one anywhere on the planet. Hopefully a boost in his confidence which might re-ignite his career.

I love Sergio. He's made some changes to his swing in recent years to lose some of that loop and excessive lag which got him stuck at times. Nearly every pro out there will tell you he's the best ball-striker in the world, but his putting...

I really hope he's now got that sorted too. Does anyone know who he's been working with on his putting or what he's doing differently? I didn't get to see any of the golf.

Don’t know who is working with but apparently he went back to an old putter, It was Scotty Cameron don’t know the model .

He has a different pre shot routine where he places the club head right next to the ball and takes a practise swing, makes for very nervous viewing!

I had a few little bets on betfair but as they all faded away apart from Langer I decided for once to bet AGAINST someone and went against Sergio. Than as I was watching it I realised what an arse I was as I was willing him not to win. I actually said to the Mrs 'What am I doing?' Many is a time I willed him on to win in majors etc

I actually like Sergio so I went to bed, couldnt deal with it.

So I learnt big lesson there, Well Done Sergio even tho' it cost me £50 :o :o

Also what about Poulter hitting the green with his putter, That was simply outrageous!!!! His behaviour is disgusting and he should take a long hard look at himself! I don't want to hear about pressure to win etc sponsors pressure etc That was plain out of order, If he can't control himself then he should take anger management lessons before some putting lessons!!!!

Great to see him win again-in my opinion he was a dead cert to get a Ryder Cup wildcard if he did not qualify-We could not take on the Yanks without his passion and team ethic in the Ryder Cup.

His putting was all that was holding him back, hopefully this win will give him the confidence to push forward.
