Well done son! 4th place in the SBS, if he keeps this form up he could be on the plane to Wales this year. Even a GM article could be in the offing - then you know he has made it!

Yeah Well Done Martin ! Certainly in with a very good chance of making the Ryder Cup Team. Even better was in my Fantasy League Team !

Another good performance from him. Hopefully he can keep the current form going for a while to help boost his confidence. It will certainly be interesting to watch his progress this year, and to bench mark his performances against some of the better known European players just to see how he has progressed.

JJF69,
Just to let you know we ran a four-page Q&A with Martin Laird in our May issue last year. The interview took place not long after he'd holed a gutsy 8-foot putt on the last green of the last event of the year to save his Tour card right on the number in 125th place.
Who knows how crucial that putt may prove to be now following last year's PGA Tour win and this excellent start to 2010?
Jezz

That's the beauty of the belly putter JJF69 my friend, that's the beauty!

Great result from the unkown Scot ,but if he'd not 3 putted the 14th after driving the green he mght have kicked on and finished higher , great start to the season tho.

Jezz - must be going downhill for me rapidly, I cannot for the life of me remember that article. Maybe he will be in next May's waxing lyrical about the Ryder Cup!

Great result from the unkown Scot, but if

The 2 most used words in golf :D

He doesn't seem to get a lot of recognition in this country ,this guy won a couple of times on the Nationwide Tour ,then kept his card on the PGA Tour after a great finish to the season then last season he wins on the PGA Tour, i think if he was English it would have slapped on every paper and raved about for ages IMO.

Pretty sure he couldn't play in the Ryder Cup,don't think he is a member of the tour.

Dodger,

He took out European Tour affiliate membership after his win on US tour in October but then had to start of with no points from that date. Wasn't given much publicity though and indeed may still be the case. So unless he has an extraordinary season he will struggle to catch up point wise and will be relying on a captains wildcard.

Certainly gives Monty something to think about though !

........ i think if he was English it would have slapped on every paper and raved about for ages IMO.

Take a look at Brian Davis......he has coined nearly $7m in the last 4 or so years.....don't see him plastered over our papers either.

But, like the Boddingtons, we're not bitter.

Not bitter ,not at all ,but he didn't win tho :D

Bearing in mind how little golf coverage there is in most papers these days outside the biggest tournaments, this is perhaps not that surprising.

And there's certainly no national bias in all this as someone suggested earlier.

Here at the magazine we're always on the lookout for golfers who have perhaps slipped under the mainstream radar, but who our readers have perhaps been following week in week out as their form improves. So it's encouraging for us that we have run features on both these players this year (Brian Davis in our Nov issue) in recognition of their excellent performances and achievements on the other side of the pond over the last couple of season

Point wasn't about GM it was about the media in general, the articles on Davis ,Hutsby and Laird were all good reads but Scots don't seem to get the same exposure in the media , papers and tv. Am not coming over all Braveheart here just staing a point IMO.

Spot on Jezz, suppose it's a (small) price that they pay for going over there, being a small fish in a very big pond.

Brian Davis, Martin Laird and all are, I'm sure, much happier with the $ in their back pocket rather than being concerned about the odd line in The Sunday Sport!! :D

Fair enough, Steve - slight misunderstanding!

One thing I do envy you Scots is the volume of golf coverage in your papers - far in excess of what we get served up in most English dailies (the odd column or two here and there if you're lucky other than when the big tournaments are on)

Maybe its because they are crap at golf? ;)
