Well done G Mac

Well done.
All the English " Stars"wilted away again.
Still good to see him win. Maybe this can be the start of some Brit domination

So the first golfer from the UK to win a major is not Westwood, Poulter, Casey, Donald or McIlroy but McDowell!! Superb effort - many congrats to him. Hopefully this will spur on the others to follow his success.

Great gutsy grinding win from someone new to the Major Sunday pressure. All the others except Havret couldn't get close to reeling him in. Great stuff.

Pure survival golf, if the pros struggle like that imagine us lot!

Never heard Ernie swearing like that before, sounded like me! :o

If I were a betting man I don't think I would ever put a penny on Westwood, Poulter, Casey or Donald to win a major. They've disappointed so many times between them in the past. Well done to G-Mac for showing them how it's done. :D

Absolutely brilliant ....... :) :) :) First British player for 40 years to win the US Open ....

In his interview after the third round he just exuded confidence, which he showed in his golf on Sunday ………………

Well done to Graham .................

Just watched the back 9 as couldn't stay awake last night. Great performance over what was a brutally tough golf course, but then so it should be tough.

Hats off to Havret as well, I was hoping GMac would win but towards the last few holes I wouldn't have begrudged Havret the victory one little bit, his performance was every bit as good as GMac's, just left himself too much to do.

Even with all those top notch major winners buzzing around the leaderboard, the 2 calmest people on the golf course were Havret & McDowell.

Would have been great to see them both contest a play off today. The worst putt Havret hit was the birdie putt on the last. Where did that performance come from??

Great win for McDowell and well deserved. Fair play to his caddy for some clear headed thinking on the last there too.

All the English "Stars" wilted away again.

Needlessly harsh. Every single golfer went backwards a bit, some more than others. Rather than bemoan 'wilting', how about praising the biggest number of English players at a US Open?

Superb effort by McDowell (I won't buy into this GMac nonsense...). Excellent golf and control over his own game, especially considering the meltdown that was going on next to him. Credit to his caddy for expert pro management of his player on the last. Steered him into taking the 9i when Graeme was looking higher and gave him the confidence to execute the game plan.

Special mention to Havret. Looking back at his round, how often did his putts finish within a few inches? He has come so close to that title, played beautifully and with great composure, despite being saddled with misery guts sulking his way round.

All in all, that was a great US Open. We see the pros hammering courses all year, I'm glad that at least one of the Majors is still an incredibly difficult - but fair - test.

And a further note to course owners the world over: the solution to keeping scoring down is not 7500+ courses. Make them play with skill and imagination, give them hard rough and smallish greens and you never know...

Personally, I thought it was great to see so many "foreigners" competing as well as the Americans.

Some of the shots that Phil & Tiger played made me look competent, very refreshing to see!

I enjoyed watching it, stayed up til the end last night and enjoyed M'dowell's performance, thought he done extrememly well to stick with his game plan, very well executed. And I totally agree that his caddie deserves a huge mention down the last, as well as throughout the tournament.
Well done Graeme, a british winner of the us open, hopefully we can get another brittish winner at st andrews!

absolutely brilliant performance. hope it gives confidence to the other europeans when in contention at a major. sat up last night and watched to the death, he's a fellow irish/northern irishman and it was great to see him showing such maturity and course management.

looking back, his put from off the green on 14 was a huge moment. it SHOULD have rolled off the other side of the green and down the bank, but somehow managed to stay on. it reminded me of couples piece of luck on the 12th when he won the masters in '94.

I don't think so.

Casey was in front after the first round, Donald and Poulter were within a shot or 2 but they all fell away badly. Only Westwood and McGowan improved their position on the last day. If PC,LD and IP didn't "wilt" what did they do? A dozen players shot par or better on the last day - ok not a huge number but it showed what was possible. There's no point in having a record number of English players in the US Open if they don't get anywhere - Germany only had 2 players in the field and they both finished top 10. Now that's something worth praising.
