Congratulations to Celtic on winning the Scottish league.
Good European campaign as well.

Scottish league was not quite the doddle for them that most folk though it would be without Rangers.

Was at the game yesterday and a great atmosphere it was too, it was a doddle we won the title by double figures and that was without The Rangers taking points of the other teams as well.

only joking, the goals were pretty good aswell. Will they be able to keep Hooper though?

So the SPL two horse race became a walk over, Celtic win at a canter 15 points clear of their nearest rival, Rangers relegation to Div3 has proved a nonesense, they are 24 points clear.

I dare say next season 2013/14 in the highlands will be the same, Rangers will win Div 2 and Celtic will win the SPL, then season 2014/15 will be more of the same, Rangers will win Div 1 and Celtic will win the SPL then season 2015/16 will be back to a two horse race in the SPL.

The changes that were mooted a while back, what happened to them?

wonder what the odds were after Rangers went down for Celtic to win the League? in fact were the bookies even giving odds?

Clydes football phone in last night asked what the odds might be for 10 in a row now as Rangers wont be 'challenging' for 3-4 years minimum in their opinion.

I see Man U have just won the EPL.
Is that 11 times in the last 20 years now.
Some record that.

Since 1992 EPL Winners

Manchester United 13 (including this current season)
Arsenal 3
Chelsea 3
Blackburn 1
Manchester City 1

From 1992 to 1998 when the top league in Scotland was called "Scottish League Premier Division"
Rangers 6
Celtic 1

From 1998 to Present with the top leagues in Scotland known as the SPL
Rangers 7
Celtic 8 (including this season)

You have to go back to the 84/85 season for a different team (Aberdeen) other Rangers or Celtic to have won the top league title.

At least with the EPL, other teams are closing the gap, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and maybe Everton are all in with a shout of winning the EPL, that's 7 teams. With the SPL only Rangers or Celtic are contenders.

Really? Of the four highlighted only I would rate Arsenal as the only ones with a sniff of a chance but even Arsenal and Chelsea seem like they could be waiting for a long time before they get their hands of the title. The other three will have a longer wait so in essence it really is a two horse race. Not much difference then.....

The EPL is not a two horse race, out of the last 21 titles the EPL has had 5 different winners, with the potential the another team other than Man U will win the EPL.

The SPL however, is most definatley a two horse race, out of the last 21 titles, only two teams have won and no other team is anywhere close to breaking that domination.

Take Celtic and Rangers out of the equation, for the moment, and then the SPL would be a challenging league with any number of league members potential league winners.

What you need to do is look at are the number of different teams that have finished in second place and the number of times each team has finished there.

In the SPL there have been 5 different teams in the runners up place:-

Ranger - 7 times
Celtic - 9 times
Aberdeen - 2 times
Hearts - 2 times
Motherwell - 1 time

In the EPL there have been 7 different teams in the runners up place:-

Man U - 5 times
Aston Villa - 1 time
Blackburn - 2 times
Newcastle - 2 times
Chelsea - 4 times
Arsenal - 5 times
Liverpool - 2 times

Not sure of the point of this thread. If you go round Europe all the smaller and most of the bigger countries have 2 to 4 teams always winning their national titles. Doesn't really matter, even though the lesser teams fans know they won't win the league they know they can still win the odd match against the bigger rivals which is good enough for most fans.
9 years in Spain since Valencia kept big two out, 12 years in Italy since Roma kept out big 3 of Milan, Inter and Juve. Germany and France probably healthiest competition of the bigger countries with 5 different winners of Bundesliga over last 10 years and France have had 5 different winners the past 5 seasons which would leave fans nicely optimistic at the start of the season.

And? If you ask most people it is a two horse race the second horse may change every now and again ;) spain is the same as is italy. Dont be seduced by sky into thinking the premiership is all that though.

Sky most definately does not seduce me, one or two or three of the female sky sports news presenters could, but that's a different thread ;)

The point of this thread, very loosely, is that the SPL is a two horse race, while over the last 20yrs there have been 5 runners up, of 21 titles, two teams (Ranger & Celtic) have shared the spoils the most, 76% of the time.

While in the EPL, even though people see it as a two horse race, over the same 20yr period there has been 7 runners up, with no distinct pattern of teams always finishing first and second.

Yep their is always the same few tems that win in all the leagues. Think the Bundesliga and the French league are going to be 1 horse races for a few years now. Bayern have romped away with the title this year and have just announced the signing of Mario Gotze for £32 million today and Lewandowski expected to join him shortly, PSG will romp the French league for a long time to come now the arabs have took over.

I always think that the ECL is a much more open and attractive league than the EPL.
A few weeks ago there was only a handful of points between the top and about 12th position in the ECL.
Man U seem to be as dominant in England as Celtic are in Scotland.

The SFA cup is a bit different though, I can't recall the OF having it their own way in recent years.

Another lets knock Scottish football thread, I'll give you a fact right now, 1st and second in the Premiership are the same teams as last year, can we say that about the SPL?

Celtic won the league with 4 games to go and are 15 points clear at the top.

Man U won the league with 4 games to go and are 16 points clear at the top.

Remind me which league again was the one horse race?
