I recently bought two new (used) Vokey wedges. Because of my peculiar, Neanderthal, build I need all my clubs' lies to be adjusted 3 to 4° flat. I usually take my clubs to a fitter 15 miles away but, for convenience, thought I'd go to my local AG, which is 5 minutes up the road. Went to see the manager, who I know well & have bought stuff off in the past. Now I know the Vokeys are cast, not forged, but they're cast from soft metal & can be bent 3° without a problem. The manager said he'd "do what I can with them" I offered to wait but he said to leave them as they were busy (the shop was empty at the time!) I went back later to collect them. He said he couldn't move them very far and they didn't seem to be much different. He didn't charge for the job.

Subsequently, I bought a new 46° SM4 to complete the set & took all three to my usual fitter. He looked at the two which AG had done and said that he doubted they'd been touched, there was no telltale trace of a tool mark, even the slightest hint. In about 2 minutes he had all three nicely flattened to my specification, for no charge again, since last week I presented him with a free photo at his club's prize giving.

Fair to say my local AG aren't the best golf engineers in the world, don't think I'll be going back in a hurry.

fair enough, i am not sure id go to AG for club repairs either.

Big ask of AG who you would say are mainly a retailer to do same job as a specialist fitter. That said they should of been honest and said they decided wasn't worth risking damage to the club rather than just not trying and saying nothing.

Personally I wouldn't have asked AG to do the work and would have preferred to give it to my club pro or a specialist fitter. However it's still poor of AG to agree to try and help and then make no attempt to do the work. However I'm not suprised

There is a swell of opinion that suggest you take this up with AG directly and keep it off the forum :D

This must be a swell that's gone straight over my head. I would not name the branch of AG & would not want to get the manager into bother. I'll speak to him & tell him that someone else was more successful in bending the clubs & he may not be as hesitant in future. I'm sure he was afraid of snapping them so my advice may help him do the job better. And I see nothing wrong with putting factual information on a forum like this. If AG were serious about customer service they should be monitoring forums (or is it fora?) like this.

It was the sheer convenience of getting what I thought was a simple job done. A job that, regrettably, my club pro can't, and should be able to do.

They have all the equipment there, together with a fitting studio in which I've never seen a customer. The tour van visits regularly, why don't they take the opportunity of training the staff.
