This morning I went out for a unexpected 18 holes and because I was on my own I thought I would try a couple of things out on the course ( not normally a good idea but I was on my own and......) one of them being a new putting stance.

I think it was on here that I saw a picture of a golfer of days gone by that set up to his putts with his knees knock kneed in order to keep his lower half still.

So I thought I'd give it a go, and it definitely helps keeping the putts straight,ok so if anyone is watching it looks like you're having bladder issues, but if it does the job who cares?

I'll definitely use this in future even if I get a good ribbing off my PPs

The things we do for golf heh!

On my quest to find a repeatable stroke I tried the elbows into the body/ hips thing and it made my putting arc too pronounced so that stage didn't last long!

That suggests to me that your putting stroke involves turning your hips, which really ought to be a no-no.

Try hanging your putter "vertically" as a pendulum (it won't be perfectly vertical because the putter head is offset). Then try and putt so that the putter shaft stays in the same plane during the stroke.

I think that Nicklaus used to hinge his wrists back and forth to putt- I guess it's easy on 12 stimp greens !

I do some putting drills at home on a short pile carpet and try to do a pendulum type stroke but like most things in golf it's work in progress.

Palmer started it in the early 1960's.
All my teenage friends copied his style and, of course, the glove tucked into the hip pocket.

Strange thing about the glove in the pocket , in as much that I don't take my glove off until the end of the round. I don't know if anyone else takes theirs of to putt or whatever? Never found it made any difference personally.

I take my glove off between shots. Putting it on is start of my pre shot routine. I have tried putting with a narrow but not knock kneed stance which felt comfy and seemed to work for a while but I seemed to then start breaking the wrists more. Maybe coincidence or as a result of but I went back to something more traditional. Think age will stop me trying the Michelle Wie method

While at the moment I'm quite happy to use the knock kneed stance on putts up to about ten feet or thereabouts, for longer putts I will probably use my normal set up in order not to come up short.
