How did everyone get on in competition this weekend?
I put my first card of the year in in the June medal. Gross 76, net 71, css 69 so missed the buffer by one.
Quite happy with my lot, some poor driving and a cold putter cost me a few shots, 13 pars, 4 bogeys and a DB.
Have a very thick head cold bordering on flu so I think I did ok considering.
Putted great last weekend but the stroke wasn't there today, don't know why. :D

Played 3 times this week, Ballymena (totally flat course), Carnalea (hilly coastal course) and my home course Bangor (Hilly Parkland)
35 points at Ballymena, 35 at Carnalea and 32 at my home course.
I played poorly at each course though had a couple of birdies at each but my own course!
I think Im suffering from paralysis by analysis at the moment, I just cant get thoughts of what my hands should be doing at the moment, should they be turning, should I be trying to keep them still, this is causing thoughts of shanks. Now, while on the practice range I have shanked my fair share but on the course it rarely ever happens but the thoughts are there and its preventing me from commiting 100% to every shot.
Videojug is getting a hammering at the moment and when funds permit, a block booking of lessons from my pro.

Played woeful yesterday and today-at least the sun was shining so the sun cream and the shorts came out for the annual Irish outing which usually lasts 2 golfing days.

Yesterday-yellow tees-scored 31 pts-10 on the front 21 on the back.
Today-white tees-scored 27 pts-15 on the front and 12 on the back.
Too many scratches and single pinters on both cards.
Consolation i parred the 17th & 18th both days.

I played on Friday and was superb, I shot a gross 85 so I was 5 under off of my 18 handicap, and althoguh this isn't the best score in the world I was playing brilliantly and a few putts hear and there and I could have certainly broken 80 and the 5 lost balls didn't help either! My driving was accurate, and every iron shot I hit was crisp and straight out the middle resulting in me hitting 10 GIR which I was very happy with. Unfortunately I had one poor hole in terms of ball striking(an 8 on a par 5) but I managed to counter that with a par, birdie, bogey finish so at the end of the round I was very happy.

Today I played in a medal and I was highly optimistic at having a very good round, winning the competition and getting a cut, despite the fact I wasn't hitting it well on the range. My 5 wood tee shot travelled about 200 yards and split the fairway, leaving me a 6 iron into the green which I pushed slightly meaning I ended up pin high in the right hand rough. I didn't mind however as at least I had got a good strike unlike on most of my range shots. I proceeded to pitch to within 5 feet and I holed the par putt. Job done, a nice save. I then bogeyed the second and third holes before teeing up on the par 3 fourth fairly content with how things were going. Well this is where disaster struck I hit a 5 iron terribly and never regained my strike throughout the round. There was an odd glimour of hope coming in the form of a 185 yard bunker shot that I hit onto the green and a nicely sunk 15 footer all be it for a treble bogey, but I just started hitting everything fat or with a bit of a hook. My 5 wood continued to excell off of the tee but I just couldn't hit an iron to save my life and what with taking 3 shots to get out of one bunker in addition to 3 lost balls I returned a miserable 104 the first time I have failed to break 100 since my round on new years eve. This is the lowest I have felt after a game of golf and I debated going and booking a lesson straight afterwards but I was to demoralised to even do that thinking that I might not even bother as I just don't feel like going near a golf club at the moment. Normally I would go out onto the range the next day but at the moment I am just not in the right frame of mind. I am not normally one to get the blues after what is only a game but when I was on such a high and very confident this round has really hit me for 6. :(

Played in an invitational doubles match at my brother in laws club and had a blinder right up until the 15th where I lost a ball and due to being soaked throught to my underwear decided to let Joe score for us on that hole and never walked back to play another. I think I was nearest the pin on the 10th (12ft, maybe a prize?) and was pleased by the way I managed the course (well, until the 15th anyway). I hit 11 G.I.R and putted soundly but after playing like a novice for a couple of weeks, it was a vast improvement. I changed to the Srixon Z-urc and I was really impressed.

Just in time for the 1st round of the club doubles on Wednesday.

pick-up game Friday, usual erratic stuff, good drives (only one loose one) and some decent putting (didn't miss anything from 6ft and in).
today played a mate from work at a new course, Beadlow Manor, which has two tracks. We played the longer par 73 - the bunkers were in an atrocious condition (even if we did only pay £22), like the surface of Mars. some of the par 4's are very long.
much like friday, driver working, putter not bad, struggling with the irons so a mix of very good, good and poor holes.

got to sort these irons, I'm losing so much hitting good long drives then being unable to capitalise.

Saturday medal was not too bad but I couldn’t buy a putt and I ran up a bad triple bogie. Still went round in 82 less 6=76 CSS 71, so not a total disaster.

Sunday morning sweep and I run up an 8 at the first hole, and it was hard 8 after pulling my tee shot into the woods. Anyhow, I had a good run of pars and finished in 78 blows. Good shooting after that start.

Medal this Wednesday and if the odd pull persists I’m off for a little coaching. I’ll get it sorted.

A weekend of highs and lows. Managed to qualify for the Scratch Club Championship which takes place w/c 9/6 so looking forward to that. 78 - 6 for 72, CSS 72. That with my first round was good enough by a shot to get the last qualifying spot.

Played the open at Kinross today and suffered again with a lack of familiarity. I just can't seem to take my handicap to away competition where I don't know the course. 88 - 6 for 82, CSS 74 (they say it was Reduction Only but hdid doesn't confirm that?)

Anyone else find they don't shoot anywhere near their handicap when playing comps at other courses?

Had my first full 18 holes yesterday, since getting back into playing ( 13 yr break and back op )

Taking it very slowly at the moment, which in fact has helped my game and swing no end, so playing off 28 ( yet to get my h/c sorted from my club ) I went round in 93, and in that round I had 3 off the tee twice and three putted 4 times and also had a 7 on a par 3 !!!
So all in all very happy with my game, but just need to work on my putting and taking an iron off the tee.

Played a fourball team match on Sunday. It started raining on the 2nd and rained all the way round. 3 down with 6 to play, we came back to get a half and the team won 3.5 to 1.5 so despite the rain it was worth it.

I played to my handicap.

However, I was 2 over gross after 10 holes without holing a putt. But then I suddenly forgot how to play golf on my nightmare hole (no11) and topped my drive 30 yds, hit a good rescue and missed the green with a wedge. It all went down hill from there. I had 3 DBs on the back nine and two three putt bogeys.

So once again I scored ok but didn't play well.

Per Scoresaver, my fairways hit & GIR are both better than my H'cap average - putting isn't though!

Marko,

If you played at the Montgomery course at Kinross then I'm not surprised you didn't play to your handicap. It's not easy. They have a rule for visitors that if you break 80 then you get another free round there. They're pretty confident.

Played on Thursday and Friday myself.

Thursday in a 4 ball betterball team comp at Auchterarder GC. Couldn't hit a fairway and didn't really help my team score until the last 6 holes when I was level par. Tight course with all those trees but lovely and we did win £200 in the raffle and longest drive prize.

Friday played in a 3 ball Texas Scramble at Crieff GC.

Really nice course, particularly the back 9 and a lot more room for my errant driving that day. Contributed well to a 69 with a few good putts and long approaches with the 5 wood for birdies.

Was still the 2 worst rounds I've played this year, though, for accuracy at least. Lost the swing completely.

Played on Saturday with my ususal crowd and had 33 points with 2 blow outs. 19 going out and hitting the ball pretty well then seemed to forget how to swing on the back 9. Swing suddenly felt out of synch and I seemed to be thinking too much about the new swing changes. It was only my short game that kept the socreboard ticking over.

Went down the range yesterday morning and was swinging it pretty well. Still working on making a proper turn (you may remember my posts about lack of distance a month or so ago - was reverse pivoting and not turning) and was hitting it OK.

Decided to pop out mid-afternoon and to be honest from the moment I stood on the 1st it was like I hadn't hit any balls or worked on my game at all. Absolutely no idea about turning properly, usually taking it to far inside and coming over the top). If it wasn't for 7 single putt greens (29 putts) things would have been pretty gory.

Back to the practice ground tonight. The swing is there and when I am turning properly I can feel the benefits and am hitting the ball with more power. Its all about finding the optimum plane (certainly eradicating the inside too early swing) and being able to repeat it.

Shot a 71 net 66 par & CSS is 68 but I signed for a 70 so was disqualified. Next time I think I'll check my card, I was in a rush to get away so just assumed it would be correct. I'm really happy with my game though having made 4 birdies on the front 9 just gotta get rid of those silly mistakes.

Played Sat am and was so pleased I posted when I got back.
Had to play a knockout match as it was the last day to do so,to my delight beat the guy who won last weeks medal and who has been playing really well lately.

Was 4 over after 14 which on one leg off our blue tees pleased me a lot.

It was a great start to my Birthday.

played in home club open and shot a 106 which is my worst score since i stated again last year, lets hope it goes better this weekend. Also played Drumoig on Tuesday, nice course but it was blowing a hoolie, the 3 off us scored 24,25 and 27 points, will be going back on a finer day to try again well worth the money £20 per head and also 3 for 4 so cant be bad.

It was the Montgomery John and can believe that offer! There was 14 handicappers in the 100's!! Fantastic course though and one I'll be back to for sure.

Auchterarder and Crieff - 2 good tracks as well. Its normally the last 6 holes at Auchterarder that knacker me. You done well to play them in par. That 16th is a killer!
