weekend play - heart skipped a beat!

How did everyone's weekend games go?
I got 18 in yesterday, breezy and about 5 degrees so plenty of layers required.
I was a mixed bag, steady off the tee bar a couple of snap hooks, happier with the driver now. Iron play was ok but I fatted a few short irons which isn't like me, my back is a little tweeky and I think that may have had something to do with my moving a little gingerly at times.
First time out with Scotty C circa 62 no.3 putter I acquired last week, holed a 25 footer on 2nd for birdie, 2 or 3 three putts in there too however, getting the feel for it, weighty with a very small sweet spot on this putter. We're back on full greens thankfully, still winter tees though.
Highlight was a very near ace, 17th tee, 6 iron, going right at it lands just short of flag , rolling at flag, Oh my god....DAMN, passed on the right by at most an inch or two and stopped 18" behind hole for easy putt and second birdie of the day. To be honest not the best strike of the day but I suppose an ace is 99.9% luck anyway. Still awaiting that elusive 1. Beat the father in law 3&2 though, never a bad thing!
What happened to you??

Birdieman, my weekend was mixed. Started out with a messed up swing and grip (thanks to a lesson and no end of practice on the range) AND new Mizunos MX15. It took a while to get warmed up and after a 2 7's on the first 2 holes, I was nearly quitting. However, persisted on and ended up with two of the best holes of my life.

First a birdie on a par three having missed the pin by no more than 6 inches. Gave loads of confidence in revised swing and grip and clubs. Walked to next but one hole and nearly had a 2 on a par 4 following the best 7 iron I have ever hit - again missed by 6 inches.

Needless to say for a 28 handicapper walking off the back 9 with a 47 left me with a grin on my face and an itching for the Easter weekend to get a move and get here.

Shot a 75 yesterday. Pretty steady stuff, nothing spectacular, which is quite pleasing.

Could have been better, had a couple of 3 putts. Putting stroke was a bit shaky.

Sounds like a mixed day fella.

I am trying to just remember the best Drive, fair way shot, pitch and putt of the round at the moment after reading in GM.

Best Drive = 9th about 245 yards par 4 with trees in the middle with a gap of 15 yards to get through, 3 wood straight as an arrow to about 20 yards of pin or 5i on the first, dog leg left, straight as an arrow and 40 yards to the pin.

Fairway shot = 11th Par 5 rescue after horrid slice from the tee, took the 3 wood out and placed it 40 yards short to green.

Pitch = 13th. After slice with 3 wood on the deck for second I was in the rough facing downhill, pitched 50 yards to 3 yards of the pin to claim a 5 on a long par 4.

Putt = 4th. A 12 foot putt to finish off a horrid hole.

Shot 88 on hcp 20 on par 70. pretty decent round minus the slicing.

So the slice was back, I only remembered not to force shots when I was in Sainsbury's on Saturday afternoon looking at the polo shirts.

Next week: Must not force shots and try and place my Tee shots.

My peepers are still blurry from a top up dose of laser eye surgery a fortnight ago and Saturday was my first outing since the Blair. I am loving my irons at the moment and hit a few approaches stone dead. I was trying a new G10 driver because my Cobra is going to perforate my eardrums this season but the V2 shaft in the G10 was like a bit of lead. I am not a V2 guy. So loking forward to the start of the season and hopefully getting the cap down below 10 for the first time in 5 years.

Madandra, your b.i.l. was trying to sell me this laser stuff at Blairgowrie, I thought laser surgery was an instant fix, have booked an appointment at Optimax next week but the idea of 2 weeks blurriness has put me right off, all the brochures say a couple of days! Is a 2 week blurriness usual?

Stuart, I had LASIK just over a year ago and to be fair it was great after 2 days but in some instances you may need an enhansement. In this case they use LASEK.

LasIK is where they cut the flap on the eye surface and then laser it, replace the flap and it heals itself, lasEK is where they scrape the surface of the eye and then pull it back once it has been zapped, and the result is it is creased and takes a little longer to heal.

You will probably be offered LAS IK and you won't regret it.

PS

Joe could get you 10% off it with his company.

Was 5 over after 11 and proceded to smash 2 OOB on the 12th tee. Seems to be my game at the minute, really steady with 1 disaster hole.

Mad, Interesting what you say about the g10- I'm also using a g10 with the v2 shaft find it very hard work. When it goes it goes though.

Played the old course on Saturday and for the first time the new on Sunday.

Highlight of the weekend for me was playing an 8 iron (second shot) from the next fairway over some firs on the Sunday. Couldn't see it land but felt I had hit it pure and it was sailing in the right direction. Found it had landed 10 foot from the hole!

Lowlight was sculling an easy pitch to put me on the green in regulation on a 480ish yard par five with a low SI. Back to the practice ground for me I think :(

I’m off to the pro to get some tuition. Only played on Saturday, but that was two rounds at different courses.

Really getting annoyed, inwardly, with myself. Nice easy 6 iron into the wind to the par three 150 yard 14th. Middle of the green and I go and 4 putt it. Next hole, the hardest par 4 on the course with undulations and a dogleg left and plenty trees. I pull my tee shot but not too bad, hit my 5 wood way right, chip onto the green and sink the putt for a par….mad golf. Last hole, super drive right into the wind, a pull draw 5 wood to the left side of green, chip into 4 feet and miss the put for 79. A round with two 3 putts and a four putt....Oh and an eagle 3….how mad is that.

Second round, different course, pull onto the beach, start with a 7, keep cool to get out in 40, come back in 35. But, it was all scramble as I’m pulling shots all over the shop.

Don’t give up the day job.
Help :D

Never made it onto the course. Earned some brownie points with the wife by not playing Saturday on the provision that I could play on Sunday. Then proceeded to blow a gale and chuck it down all day. Still am off from Thursday onwards and have permission for 2 rounds over Easter.

Sigh!...we with the ball and chain of our own understand your predicament all too well.
You have to ask is the joy of being on the course for 4 hours of a weekend actually worth the guilt trip as you tentatively announce on Thursday -
"I'm playing golf on Saturday dear"...
"You're always playing golf, you promised we'd go to John Lewis on Saturday for some curtains or a pram etc rant rant"....
"No no dear you don't understand we can order that stuff online"...
"No we can't I have to see it properly first"

Jeez Louise!! :(

Indeed, that is pretty much an exact transcript of the conversation. I even went as far as encouraging my wife to play golf so I could get out on the course more often but she is not a fan of bad weather and will only play if the sun is shining. When will she understand that shopping is neither a sport nor a hobby but rather a necessity to be done only when absolutely necessary.

Equally frustrating is that I actually have no input on these shopping trips anyway. If we need anything, she picks them and may ask what I think but has already made up her mind. God help me if I do not read the signs right and agree/disagree accordingly.

For those brave enough, pass these rules on to your good lady wife:

Please note.. these are all numbered "1 " ON PURPOSE!

1. Men are NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one

1. You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials..

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colours, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A colour. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really .

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

1. Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight;

But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

my weekend was great! shot 4 over my new handicap, but got my first ever hole in one...

had 36 putts and knocked a ball out of bounds on 17 & 18 (after my doubles match had finished) so plenty of potential there.

Have really hit form at the start of the year - already won a medal and a long awaited play-off for the final major of last season.

Going on holiday this week though, so im sure to be useless again on my return. Playing Trevose while im away though :D
