As a relatively new member of the golf club scene I was wondering what your respective golf clubs were like for tournaments throughout the week?

My current club holds 2-4 events during the week and 2-3 at the weekend.

However, the main reason for this thread was because quite often, we can't play on a saturday or sunday morning up until 4pm. I don't mind during the week because I'd rather play in the later afternoon anyway but with the weekend often unavailable to play, it can be quite annoying. Is this common across most golf clubs?

:mmm:

2 to 3 events each weekend that are occupying the course significantly until 1600 sounds a little on the high side - however surely you can just enter the events?

The other point is that wouldn't you have looked at and considered the competition diary and it's impact on you and the golf you wished to play when considering joining? For most it's the single biggest issue - simply because people either want to play comps or they don't; it's a very marmite issue!

Clubs successfully recruiting from another club with a different philosophy often experience problems in this area.

All our "Silver " comps are on a sat morning until lunchtime and drawn, the odd one might be later. But all the puller medals are play with whoever you like and the same with Sunday Stablefords. There are also the odd open at away clubs they would run into the afternoon.

2-4 midweek competitions.....are you a junior by any chance? That may also explain why you can't play till 4pm at weekends.

competition day is Saturday, so tees are reserved for that purpose until 4pm. Only other time that is set in stone is Wednesday until 1pm for the seniors who play a 12 hole competition. New members are encouraged to play in the comps and there are also a couple of roll ups on a Sunday

No I'm not a junior. The competitions don't last forever, usually around midday for 2-3 hours but for somebody I joined with it's a real pain.

I just enjoy playing with the same group of people as I can't usually dedicate longer hours every visit. For the last 3 months I've only been playing with my friend who also joined with me as it's convenient and doesn't last forever, nor do we have to wait for people infront of us.

However for the members who have no free time in the week and only have the weekends, they don't like the idea of competitions being held constantly. It works both ways and I suppose you can't please everybody all the time.

This week my club has 11 fixtures, and most of them I wouldn't be able to enter as they're a club comp or ladies only etc. Just seems quite busy! :fore:

All the half decent courses in my area have pretty busy schedules in terms of fixtures so unless I wanted to join a club with a poor course, it's like it or lump it.

By club comp I mean fixtures in the league that the team play in, not competitions that we can enter. I believe two of the competitions we can enter, including the club championship that anybody over a handicap of 10 isn't gonna bother with.

Matches will be dotted around all clubs fixtures but are rarely weekend core times of 730 to 1030 nor do they occupy the tee for more than an hour (usually 40 minutes).

Your club activity shown on Masterscoreboard paints a different picture. They have competitions only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the Saturday start sheets showing only 11 tees booked from 8.30 to 10.10. How does your tee booking system work?

Guess when you look in the club fixture book it looks hectic but matches with an hour here or there aren't really going to impact a great deal really? Usually just an hour around 1pm or 4pm midweek.

If you searched for Concord Golf Club that's the old place I used to play. Joined a new club and not changed my sig.
