Looking to take the misses away for a few nights, somewhere a shortish flight where there's a bit to do during the day and not hammering down with rain.

Was thinking Barcelona, but open to other suggestions

Madrid, Milan, Prague and although I haven't been yet, I believe Budapest is very nice.

You can't go wrong with Barcelona, fantastic city. I would recommend either hotels Catalonia Portal de l'Angel or Banys Oriental.

Another vote for Prague which is compact and fascinating. Slightly different ones, Brussels and Budapest although you may get wet in Brussels at the moment.

Barcelona is great for a city break as is Prague, but don't forget Paris in the Springtime - sounds too obvious but it is a wonderful city.

(Edit - don't overlook the ease of Eurostar/TGV - much more relaxing than flying anywhere)

I took the missus to Reims (Champagne Region of France) last year and it was amazing. The Champagne vineyards were superb, particularly Pommery, and the restaurants were ridiculously good. Will definitely be going back.

Marrakesh is an interesting city and certainly a bit different. And Reykjavik is one of my favorite cities, lots to see just outside of the city like The Blue Lagoon, Gulfoss, Geysir (the original geyser). But can't guarantee it won't be hammering it down. In fact it probably will. But it's worth it.

Trouble I find with places like Prague, Budapest, Tallin etc is that they tend to get overrun with British stag nights, especially at weekends. If this does not bother you then OK, but to me there's nothing more depressing when you are on a break seeing a bunch of drunk Brits at 1pm all wearing 'hilarious' matching outfits and generally making you embarrassed to be British.

Barcelona over Madrid for me but Budapest and Prague are well worth considering too.

Paris would be a bit of a gamble with weather fairly similar to ours, and then there's the Parisiens! ;)

yeh paris is hugely expensive.

How about Bratislava? I loved it there, fly into Vienna and have a night there, then a day and night in Brat. Amazing architecture and some superb eat/drinking places!

And the cost. Never been to a more expensive city. Lovely but still wincing from our last visit.

You haven't been to Reykjavik then. Or indeed any Scandinavian capital. How much......

To be honest I've been to Paris many times and like all cities you can get ripped off if you go to the tourist honey pots. But if you do a little bit of research there are plenty of good value restaurants, accommodation etc etc

LOL Stockholm is pretty pricey! Personally, i think Paris is over rated as a destination.

Barcelona is lovely
Then Prague
Bratislava
Budapest

One place that I do recommend is Valencia

Rooter - What do you think of Vienna? It looks lovely but my wife thinks we are not old enough for it yet!

Only been there for work trips, and most times it was a quick stop to drive to Brat! (about 30 mins) What i have seen and experienced its very nice, amazing architecture, sure its full of museums etc and when eating there its been good. Bratislava is better i think, a lot more relaxed feel with similar views etc and cheaper, and less german feeling!!
