When I joined my first club in June, I thought that it was going to busy at the weekends, which apart from the odd evening is the only time I can play.

I was very surprised to find that teeing off between 3 and 4pm in the afternoons there were few other people around, rarely had to wait on the first tee (my club does not operate a tee reservation system) and more often than not I have completed rounds on my own without having to wait at all on any tee.

I have often been the last, or one of the last, off of the course at 6.30 to 7.30 with 2-3 hours of daylight remaining. The other follow on from this is that the clubhouse if pretty much dead at this time.

Most of the competitions / roll-ups are in the mornings, but I still can't get over how easy it is to get on the course in the afternoons in what should be the busiest days of the week.

Is this typical throughout the country and has this always been the case or a more recent situation with the decline in golf club members?

Very quiet in the afternoons at my club also, maybe because all the seniors are back on their chargers ready to hit the butchers at dawn then the course first thing ;)

I believe it is fairly common across the country, especially at member's clubs!

Great time for beginners to play and get some practise in without feeling too much pressure. I think the main reason why most clubs are quiet in the afternoon, is that if you tee off at 1pm then it very quickly becomes an entire day activity. Hence why lots of people like to get out early doors and finish up around lunch time.

Seems to have been pretty general in my experience.

Loads of pressure to get off and around early in the morning, but rarely much pressure on afternoon tee times.

At many clubs, it's even free rather earlier, say 2:00!

If I tee off 4 ish on a Saturday very few people playing and similar time Sunday can be millionaires golf, as I'm the only one on the course

After 3pm at weekends and 6 mid week my son and I have the course to ourselves. There may be other players out there but we don't see them. Millionaires golf course is the phrase you are looking for. Enjoy yourself and be very grateful.

I've noticed this an awful lot on my travels this year, have played around 25-30 new courses and it's almost criminal (in my mind) to be playing millionaires golf at courses such as Formby, Woodhall Spa, Seacroft to name but a few and no later than 2pm as well. Still, it's definitely not a complaint - it's fab as a guest!

On the flip side, my course is rammed at weekends with Sat comps in summer teeing off from 7am until 4:30pm and Sunday's only getting quiet from about 3:30pm. A very active membership!

I've never known my club be really busy, except on comp days. I played at dinner time on Friday, and we were the only people on the course. I expected a few more Friday flyers like myself, but the course was empty.

Most members at my club tend to tee off at 8:00 on a weekend, then you can be home for 12:30 at the latest. On a Saturday and Sunday, some people are just getting up :D

I'm not intending to be selfish, but I'd rather the course be as quiet as possible during casual rounds, and then be busy and atmospheric during comps, but that's just me :D

I guess it's pretty normal - and is presumably why those members clubs that accept green fees at weekends, do so from about 2:00pm. It's quiet time as regards members.

Yes, empty Saturday and Sunday after 2.00pm. I couldn't believe it when I returned to golf. I'm sure when I was a member back in the late 80's, early 90's, my club was rammed to the rafters at the weekend.

Not played Kibworth for years how's the course these days?

The course is in great condition, especially the greens, and its very tight with the tree lined fairways. I have heard that your course Lingdale is one of the best in the county.
