I just got rid of my vokeys as i hated them! Even a full sand wedge onto a par five green felt like a nightmare shot,,, my old ping wedges i had lots of confidence with in comparison altho they werent quite right either! but the vokeys had no chance.. whether it was the bounce or lie angle or what i hated them and they had to go. No im faced with this... i have a 47 deg pw wich is staying as part of my iron set. and i now only want 2 extra wedges.... do i fill the gap with 51 and 56 or perhaps 53 and 58 or maybe a 54 and 60 ???? As i cant make my bloody mind up at all! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP

52 and 56 degree MD either the regular versions or the Norman Drews, up to you. They are up there with the vokeys for spin if not more so and feel nice in the hand.
Ive got my ap2 pw, 56 vokey spin mill and md 58 degree at the moment but just dont use the 58 often enough so it may be going in favour of a 52 again.

Definately a 52.

Then either a 56 or 58 depending on your confidence/ability. Confidence to use the more lofted club and ability to open the 56 a little to "flop" it.

Personally I'd go 58 with a mid bounce to cover sand and higher shots.

Trouble with irons these days and their ever decreasing lofts is that your current PW is more like a 9 in days of yore. So your gap (52) becomes your wedge. Thats why I'm heavy on the wedges. My pw is 46. So a 4 degree spacing through to a 58 covers the yardages. Only having 1 club between pw (47) and lob(58) leaves a big gap so a 56 might be better. But most 56's have higher bounce and so make the chips and floaters a bit more tricky. Fine if you can do it but I'd rather have the options.

My advice would be a 52 and 56. I swear by both my Cally and the TM T ZP (zip groove). Before you ask one set is matched to my X20's and my others came as part of my new TM Tour Burner irons I got for a stupid amount (and that was before the trade in on my R7's)

If you're only looking for 2 then i'd go 53 & 58.
I have those lofts with the Mizzy's and they seem to cover all bases with my PW being 47.

My cally's however are 52,56 & 60, obviously 3 wedges instead of 2.

Personal preference with what other clubs are in the bag

which is more important, pairing the wedges by make/model or buying for loft/bounce?

My pw is 45* and I'm thinking of replacing the current cheapo 52 but should I also be looking at replacing the 56/14? (don't use the 60).

Vis, my PW is 44.5* and I got my srixon changed from 52* to 50* and it feels a world better, though I did get two extra tapes and a new grip put on, my SW is 54.5* and I bought one of the MD cobalt 60*'s.

Is it best to have matching wedges or does it matter that much to a weekend golfer?

My PW has 48° and I changed from a 56° to a 54° SW this year and this feels about perfect. Additionally I carry a 60° LW in my bag but I only use it occasionally because I dont like the rounded leading edge too much

I think if you can then matching wedges is a good idea as the feel off the face and general performance should be constant. However, as is the case in this game if different wedges work for you then don't worry. Homer gets on alright with mis-matched wedges and my pw matches my irons but the other 3 are Ping and they match each other - its a personal thing.

My wedges are not mismatched. I have a set of Cally X series that go with my X20's and just got a set of TM Z TP to go with my new Tour Burners.

Jeezuz Homer, how many sets of clubs do you have.
You had a set of R7's not so long ago. Your sig says a big bertha driver but i think you also have a HiBore as well.

No offence, but i think if you chop and change less your game might come back to you easier.

Maybe i'm just jealous. I do like the look of the tour burners myself :D

Back on topic I would go with a 50 and a 56. A bit of practice with opening the face of the 56 and you will soon not have the need of a 58 or 60

Traded the R7's in as part of a silly price deal of Tour Burner (paid 180 for 8 iron and got the wedges at £45 each)

I have a set of X20's which are really there now for when I can't hit the proverbial cows rear end as they are more forgiving than the Tour Burners. I'm currently using Cleveland Hi bore driver 3 and 5 and the Call BB 460 is a stand by now.

I have 3 bags so could probably let one of those go and have several putters sitting idle now I have the TM Spider. Other than that I haven't actually got that much gear (except shoes, waterproofs, golf shirts and balls)

Spare clubs wise I am now down to just the one set of irons, one scotty, two Vokeys (54 and 58), two mizuno T3 fairways and a very old TM 360 driver.

All the rest went off to golf bidder in exchange for an SG5.

The wardrobe is positively empty. Just enough space to put my 907 in when I get my new 909.
