I have decided to treat myself to a set of wedges and I have always used the standard stock shaft, however in the age of custom fitting I was wondering if I should stick with the S300 AMT I have in my irons and get them instead.

I believe the standard wedge shafts are S200 so it wont be that much difference?

Thoughts please

If it gives you peace of mind get the matching shafts. But in reality the difference will be negligible, but confidence is key.

From what I've read the AMT shafts are pretty much the same as Dynamic Gold in the wedges anyway, they only get lighter as the irons get longer.

If it makes hardly any difference to the price and you can live with the extra wait to get them then why not.

If you end up with wedge flex I'd be surprised if you can tell the difference.

Those shafts would be of little use in wedges.
S200 would be a better fit IMO, you want slightly less stiff shafts in your wedges. So S200 would sit pretty well against S300 shafts in your irons

Word for word what I would write and the exact set up I have.

Why would you want slightly less stiff shafts?

The majority of players use regular irons yet standard wedge flex is stiff?

I don't understand this.

S300 is pretty much the same shaft as S300 AMT in a wedge.
S200 is 3g lighter.

Can't see any of us telling the difference between any of them in a blind test.

So the AMT will be fine as a wedge shaft, it just might not be worth the bother/cost.

Thanks for the advice gents, I dont think there is a cost factor truth be told it just may take longer for them to arrive. I think I will stick to the standard shaft.

Thanks again.

When I had my wedge fitting the pro got in touch with the Titleist guys to find out what shaft, the standard wedge shaft or go with those fitted to my irons, would be best for me.
They suggested sticking with the wedge shafts, they gave the reasons to the pro, who I trusted to do the right thing, so can't advise on the whys and wherefores.

Very little difference and I doubt you would even notice. Some people like wedges to feel heavier than irons, others like the feel of a bit more play in the shaft. Most don't mind one way or the other. I wouldn't order custom shafts unless you have a strong preference.

TT DG shafts are all made together and weight sorted after, so there may be as much difference within S200 or S300 as there is between them.

Quite a lot of opinion in this thread and most of it seems to just be about flex.... I would get professional independent advice. Why compromise?

It is really more about weight, that is the only difference between S200, S300 and S400, for example, and not all pros know how those shafts are weight sorted, unlike some eother brands which are flex sorted by frequency.

Its kinda all of it. There is a large amount at play. It could be the op is better with a wedge that is nothing like his irons. Profile, weight, where the weight is, flex, shaft length, loft and lie... Its no more or less important than any other club shaft so why just take vanilla?!

Unless you are using your wedges 'unusually' - for full shots - then it makes little difference if they are not the same as the rest of your irons imo.

I've used everything from Regular Nippon 850GH to the old satin rebar PX6.5 in sets of wedges, and given a round or so of getting used to them, they all work fine! It's the operator that's the problem!

Shaft makers probably use whatever happens to be their most common 'out of standard' result, but purely for cost reasons!

I had a Nippon shaft in my gap wedge. Horrible. Couldn't get on with it at all.

Wedge flex is normally S200 in 56 degrees and more lofted, S300 in 54 and less lofted. They have always been fine for me.
