My wedge game is shockingly bad, i just cannot hit the ball consistently with my 52 degree wedge. I just keep topping the ball.
Question I've got - is it best to hit down on the ball or not?

I think the issue is because i'm quite tall (6'2") and having such a short club is such a pain.

I recently watched a YouTube video that said if you are having trouble with your wedges (which I used too) try moving the ball i little closer to your left foot (right handed golfer) and let the bounce of the club sweep under the ball and pop it up. i have tried it a few times at the range and got lovely connection on each one, now use it on the course and feel a lot more confident and less worried about thinning my ball.

Hope this helps

there, that was easier than those AA meetings :)

1. don't think about hitting down at all - there lies demons
2. just swing it exactly the same as any other club; because it's shorter (ever so slightly) you will naturally have an ever so slightly steeper approach (unless you move the ball in your stance)
3. if the rest of your irons are non standard lengths then you should consider getting the 52 lengthened by the same amount
4. well done for not blaming the club!

In theory, the length of the club shouldn't prove too problematic. Gripping down on a club makes a club shorter and so some adjustments will have/might need to be made.
However, funny you should mention 52* GW as the problem club. I play with Mizunos 1/2" longer than standard and did have my old 52 lengthened by the same. It really helped. (Possibly more mental than anything....)

Yeah I found popping the ball just ahead of centre, hold the club straight up (pointing right up the centre line of your body) and "scuff" the ground with the bounce of the club during your swing

Seems to work for me
