Evening guys

I am heading up to Birmingham on Wednesday mid afternoon to take my young lad to an event and don't want to travel all the way home again to then pick him up later so was wondering if there was any forum member who fancied a game in the area at there club or on neutral ground.
If not can anyone recommend anywhere to go in the area to spend a few hours.i could go over to the Belfry to have a look and hit some balls but ideally I would like to play somewhere even if it is on my own.

Cheers

I live in Bournville (five mins from Cadburys) and there are a few good tracks in the area. Unfortunately I'm at work otherwise I would have met up with you for a knock. You have a municipal two mins up the road from Moseley: Cocks Moors Woods. Not a bad little muni, and will probably cost you no more than a tenner and you will be pretty close by to pick up your lad after. I've never played Moseley so can't really help on that front. Any other Q's let me know.....

Thanks for the info. I can occupy myself for a couple of hours so don't mind teeing off until 5ish as light until about 8.30.i don't need to be back to pick up my lad till 10 so if anyone wants to play after work it's not a problem for me

Edgbaston, Mosely area but don't mind having to travel a bit within reasonable radius.

Both Edgbaston and Moseley are decent courses, not championship standard but good "club" courses. They are private members' clubs so I don't think they do pre-booked tee-times.

Slightly further afield, 3-4 miles, you have Robin Hood and Olton. Similar comments to the other two.

Bad timing - I finish my job on Friday, and I've got two weeks off after that and I'd have happily taken you for a game at Harborne...

I wouldn't recommend going to play this week though - we've just had some heavy maintenance done on the greens.

If you just settle for a casual 9 holes, Warley Woods is ok for what it is, and Harborne Church Farm is apparently reasonable (though I've not played it).

Range-wise, if you don't fancy the Belfry, there's a decent range at Wast Hills (about 15/20 mins from you), or Beckett's Farm (20mins). That one also has a Direct Golf if you fancy nosing about, and it has a grass area and a nice short game area (though not sure if you have to be a member for that bit).

Whatever you get up to, enjoy.

That's a shame, Harborne looks a nice track.thanks for the advice.i will make some phone calls to a few clubs tomorrow and see what happens.

Yeah you have to be a member of the John Letters Golf Academy to use the short game area. Its £10 a year. The driving range at Wast Hills has a new shop, opened about 6 months ago. Its basically Sports Direct but under the name European Golf. They sell all the better gear than your Dunlop's etc, with some pretty good prices as well!
