I was 'accepting' them and coping with it, but its got to the stage I cannot go more than a minute without 'rolling over' one and a huge screen opens up...........is there a way as a user I can disable or turn them off?

No problem with adverts on the site...even video ones, but when it takes over half my screen constantly it does get a tad waring.

Yep, I just came to write this post but seems Darth is ahead of me. I have never said a word about any of the other adds we have had but the top banner adds at the moment are spoiling the experience of using this site. It is intrusive to have that pop up in my face all the time and it takes away from what you have here.

Paint it orange do whatever but please this is VERY frustrating!!!!!!!!!!

thank you

Alex

Every other page in the magazine is ads, and now this.
Is the forum really a community for golfers and magazine readers to share ideas/info, or is it just somewhere else to sell advertising space ?

Using Chrome and they have been very annoying but have just stopped, not sure why though, I havent changed any settings

also using Chrome and the new ones are more prevalent today- HOS now:(

I'll look into this adblock thing but not a fan of 'something else' running in the background doing gawd knows what

Rest easy.

Adblock is not actually running in the background in the traditional sense. It facility gets triggered when the events that would trigger a popup (or other screen) are invoked by the browser - in the case of a popup, the cursor being over the specific part of the active screen. It adds a miniscule to infinitisemal amount of processing to such events to determine whether to allow it or not.

I share your dislike of background tasks, but this one is fine!

I am going to look for it now... But what a huge shame that I should need to just because the current crop of ads has become so intrusive!

Edit: Adblock is a beautiful thing!

I'm now adblocked up- my eyes and sanity thank you....and all the forummers who mentioned it :clap:

Don't see them myself, here or anywhere else for that matter.

Firefox and Adblock takes care of all that nonsense and Adblock can be used with most browsers.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. I completely forgot about these types of things having previously used them in firefox.

Was nearly ready to go out and burn down a Debenhams :D. *In case PRISM is watching this I am not actually serious*

OK the Debenhams one is now in more than one place, like a previous poster im up for burning down the local one!!!!

I get the need for such ads but its currently impossible to have a cursor on the current page and not hit the debenhams one

The thing is I am fine with non obtrusive adverts. In fact I sometimes even click and have a look at them if they are relevant. Now though the stupid roll over ads and popups has led to me installing the ad blocker. Seems to me like advertising shooting itself in the foot.
