summer is over (was it really here) and persistent rain is inevitable.. can anyone recommend waterproofs that are of a reasonable price and where to get them?
Fit is very important, so try some different makes / sizes on. But please don't go into a shop, try on all their kit, leave it in a mess, and then go and buy it on ebay. It's killing the genuine retailers out there, with their extra overheads, it's almost impossible to compete.
Sorry, that was a plea from the heart.
I can recommend Calvin Greens, but they aren't cheap.
I have their Gore tex trousers, a gore tex jacket and a weatherbeater convertible top.
All are really comfortable, well made and most importantly - waterproof.
Brought the gore tex jacket off EBAY in america - due to the exchange rate it was dirt cheap. Other stuff from my pro.
Don't rule out going to shops like TOG24, Trespass or other outdoor companies. They often have non golf specific, but excellent waterproof outdoor clothing, often cheaper.
As for cost, depends on how often you will play if it is pi55ing down. If monsoon conditions will not deter you spend as much as you can. Big thing to do is make sure the gear is breathable or the sweat will get you as wet as the rain would.
I wear STUBURT which are cheap and excellent and on top of that a British company.
I got this jacket in the sale for 50 RRP 120
These trousers from the pro shop for 40
and with the jacket you get these freebies..!!!!
All for 90 squid!!! totally waterproof and the jacket has cells on the shoulder for support and feels like a tracksuit jacket rather than a waterproof one.
Hi I got the proquip jacket and trousers 10 months ago paid about £50 quid for them not very good at all as you only get what you pay for. I decided to go the for the Galvin Greens not cheap I got them from Manchester Golf club both the Alf waterproof trousers and the Arkell jacket both were £20 quid less than anywhere else well worth the extra money
don't know if Manchester Golf club do mail order ?
I'll second Tog24, though for trousers more than tops (that's proquip);but for the trousers they're thick enough to wear on their own if the prospect of rain is that certain.
got mine in the discount shops in hatfield galleria, so even cheaper.
up in fife you will need the best waterproofs available,Galvin Greens are great if you make use of them i got a white austin and it looks a little tired now
I bought a set of Sunice Oakie waterproofs, gore-tex jkt and trs at the start of the season and its been a fantastic buy. The Jacket was reduced from £180 - £120 and the trousers from £120 - £80.
Great bit of kit that I cant fault, and guess why I got it so cheap???
Cos all you guys recommend Galvin Green and he couldnt shift the Sunice kit at the same price. Everybody who was prepared to spend £300 wanted Galvins so the Sunice was reduced to clear.
I got a superb bargain and I would recommend Sunice to anyone.
in my opinion sunice look so much better than galvin green they fit good too,i would of got one of their waterproof jackets if i didnt come across a proquip silk touch for 50 quid
I have both Footjoy Waterproofs & when I saw a deal in the sales I bought some Ping waterproofs.
The Footjoy is understated, work extremely well, keeps you dry & yet you don't sweat when things start to warm up.
The Ping waterproofs are stylish but performance is average if extremely comfortable.
Have seen quite a few Galvin Green outfits I really like & if I treat myself to another it could well be Galvin Green. Very stylish & panders to my vanity.
Heard many good things about Sunderland clothing & everytime I've seen some of their stuff up close I've been impressed by the feel & look of quality.
