Having been enjoying the glorious weather for the last couple of months... went to look for my waterproof jacket and its been stolen by the gnomes...

I have had various jackets over the years, Footjoy, Sunice, Sunderland...
I like lightweight jackets as then you can layer up yourself (and takes up less room)

However... major gripe is always that if it is a gortex / plasticy jacket then you end up sweating more on the inside.

What are people loving wearing and would recommend right now??

Cheers

They are expensive yes. You do get a lifetime guarantee on them though which is what sells them for me. I have the Alf trouser and Almer and Anthony LTD edition jacket. I won the LTD edition before the haters come on saying I must be crazy paying that for a jacket

If you have the dosh then Galvin. Never makes me sweat.

You would be unique then imo. I certainly sweat as much in my GG that I've had for 10 years as any other Goretex jacket.

Excellent quality, made for golf. gear. Mine still lets water down my neck though - something the Cross FTX never did. I believe they've sorted that out with a better design neck these days. Neck, wrists and waist are the only places water should be capable of getting in.

If buying separately, Jacket is what you should spend 80% of your budget on imo. Most pants work fine - as long as they are Goretex or equivalent. My 'over-qualified' GG ones don't get used anymore as others work just as well.

Seems to be some bargain Callaway gear about currently (Direct Golf?). Probably last year's model, so no prob there. Good Waterproofs should last a long time and fashion isn't a consideration.

GG stuff never had any problems with sweat at all. Neither have I ever had the water going down the neck. Would not buy any other waterproof brand TBH. Agree that fashion isnt a consideration when buying waterproof gear but when the stuff looks as great as GG does then even better.

I have a GG jacket and agree that I've never really suffered with sweating when using it, but when considering price as well as performance, Ii'd have to vote for the Mizzy Impermalite..
Oh, and I won the GG jacket on here and it's absolutely fantastic. It's so good that I don't like using it on the course in case it gets dirty :D..

I was like that with the LTD edition but thought it was daft and started to wear it more but hate it when it gets mudded up

Im a GG fan too. Never had a sweat problem with my jacket.

Got the Arch jacket and it is great, during the winter I layer up with the insula and/or windstopper tops too and it keeps me warm/dry and doesnt restrict my movement.

Another one for GG here. The only waterproofs I have ever had that keep me totally dry. Played 2 years ago in horrendous conditions in another brand, the only time I have walked off a course without it being closed. Absolutely saturated. Drove 1.5 hours home with the heater on full blast and was still soaked! Went out the following day, gritted my teeth and paid a fortune for some Galvins. Played all through last year (the wettest on record) with no problem. I wouldn't buy anything else.

It would appear not after reading the latest replies:)

Galvin Green if you can afford it. Something else if you can't.

Get last seasons Proquip from ebay or other retailers that sell them, no point paying a premium for the latest range as the technology bit that keeps you dry behind them rarely changes. I got a jacket for around 40 notes and it's superb.

Any particular Galvin? I've had some reports that some of their models are overpriced and not actually that great...

I have a Galvin Ardell (which i accidentally burnt a hole in lighting my hand warmer) and an Axl they are both ace. Played in a monsoon last year at boston west and my upper body was bone dry! hoping i have won enough this summer to buy me some of t he trousers as well!
