After finally growing out of my Sunderlands (read: getting fat), I'm after some new waterproofs. Galvin Greens were an obvious choice but I was wondering if there were any others I should be considering?
Waterproofs, any recommendations?

Try for ProQuip. They're a great value brand. I've had a couple of sets with no problem.

Just bought a top & trouser set from Woodworm. Spent the day on Saturday in Brighton doing some shopping in the Lanes (outside shops) and then walking to and from a gig... all in very wet and windy conditions. Wore the top and my clothes underneath stayed bone dry. For £50, I'm already pleased with the top, yet to try the trousers.

+1 for this. If you're balking at the GG pricing, I find these VERY comfortable, they look good and keep you dry.
Our pro shops sells a brand called Zero Restiction which i think is the US Eq of GG. they do some top stuff with Gortex. its comes up on the large side as well.

For me there is only one choice - Galvin Green

I still don't get the reason some of this gear is so expensive! I bought a pair of trousers and a jacket from Tresspass for under 30 quid and they are fantastic. use them for golf, walking, cycling and i have never got wet under them!

I've just bought one of these, got it for £12 from one of their outlet stores because there is a small tear in the inner lining. Haven't worn it out yet but held my arm under the kitchen tap and the water rolled off.

Ive got the pro quip tourflex 360. Can be had for around £130 a kit and great value for money, I had the older goretex pro quip stuff and that was equally as good

Nike do some good stuff. I did look at sailing jackets seen a few but I like short sleeve s. Think I might ask hid for a foot joy one for Christmas

You don't need to spend hundreds of pounds to keep dry. Pro quip top for less than £100 and the trousers are all over eBay for £34. Job done, you'll be dry all round long.

But will possibly be having to buy new ones every couple of years as opposed to buying something with Gortex which will last a good deal longer. There is a reason why the better waterproofs cost more
