Sorry for this type of post again as I know its been covered on here loads.

With the weather turning and looking like a wet winter is in store, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a set of good quality waterproofs. Or if anyone has any horror stories so I know which ones to avoid as I think opinions of proper punters are much better than reading what the brand has to say about them.

The only features they have to have are that they are fully waterproof and breathable. Got a cheap set at the mo and I just boil when wearing them.

Thanks in advance

Okay. So I'll get slated due to price etc.

But GG do some excellent kit.

Personally I'd stay away from PacLite Gore-Tex. Just too thin for my liking, from a longevity point of view.

GG's customer service was spot on as well.

I had a pair of Alf trousers that split along the inside taped seams around the knee area. The Pro shop said I'd have no chance of getting them replaced. A week later, after being intouch with GG, and they are replaced with a brand new pair. Which incidently have redsigned the inner seam.

As I see it. Spend £100 to £150, and if they last a season or two great. But don't expect anymore if you wear them every weekend. Spend more and they'll last you. Net cost over a 3 to 5 year period. Probably nothing in it. It's whether you actually play in the crappy weather or scuttle for the clubhouse when a bit of moisture falls outta the sky. If it's the former, then GG is worth it. Or for that matter Sunice.

Oh. I also wear my GG jacket as an everyday raincoat, and the trousers for walks in the New Forest etc.

You wont go far wrong with Pro-quip. They do a good range of cheaper suits. Sunderland as well. Some of the less well known brands can be pretty good too - Sunice for example.
You get what you pay for and GG's are the best but look at how often you are going to play in the rain - real rain.
An ordinary suit from a reputable manufacturer will do you if you're only going ot play in rain. If you're going to play every week in a monsoon then spend money.
Do you really want to play every week in a monsoon?

Another shout for Pro-Quip here.
I have just bought a brand new suit off of ebay. Got the jacket for £39.99 from one supplier, and the matching trousers for £29.99 from another (the first supplier was O/S of the trousers).
They are very (very) light, totally waterproof and very quiet. Love em.
And they're not over the top to look at either
;)

Sod paying £200.00 for a set of GG's
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I dont mind paying a bit extra if Im going to get something thats gonna last.

Any particular models from the brands that have been mentioned?

The sunderland players suit caught my eye. (not sure if I could wear it tho being a Mag ;))

Smiffy

are they the PQ lite ones? If so are the trousers good enough to be worn on their own or only suitable as overtrousers?

This is the suit I've purchased.

I bought my items seperately but the price seems to have gone up since I purchased. This way, you are getting it at the same price.
I guess you could wear the trousers on their own, they wouldn't look odd. But they'd be a bit cold on your skin at first...

If only!

Okay so I did get away with 200 notes. But I did buy an 'out-of-date' model.

But as I said. I do wear them for other things, and having been a Gore-Tex wearer for years in my yachting days. It was kinda inevitable.

Today, now. If I was buying and didn't have the money. The GG's would be out of the question. More like JJB and a set of Dunlop's. I'm sure they'll do the job for one winter. :D

If it's raining so hard that my ProQuips won't deal with it, I'll be walking off anyway.
It's not the Ryder Cup / Masters / USPGA / British Open / US Open* after all....

Something to remember when choosing a wet suit. That the trousers have an elasticated waist band or draw cords to tighten. The mistake I made when buying a set from M&S last year. I'm forever having to hoick up the trousers as they're always slipping down  Also the trousers don't have pockets, just a slit to enable you to access them. Which can be a real pain when your hands are wet!

Probably the reason why they only cost £89, so the moral is, pay a bit more - wish I had. :(

Golfmmad.

Wore them today for the first time and it pished down for 15 holes and I was dry as a bone underneath them. I got them for £30 plus p&p but would be happy to pay 50 for them.

2 year gar.

I would give these a go but the sizes seem a bit odd (assuming that you have to buy the same size top and bottoms. Do not know many people with a 40 inch waist and a 42 inch chest.
