I want a good waterproof golf jacket. The GM reviews are very brief and of little use. Galvin Green and Adidas make Gore-Tex jackets; can anyone tell me if they really live up to the marketing blurb? Can you recommend another make?
Surprisingly, most of the jackets on Amazon are at the cheaper end, under £100. Will any of these do the job, or do I need to spend £150+?

If I am going to be out in the rain for 4 hours, I want to be suitably dressed!

I have a Galvin Green jacket and would recommend it many times over. Does the job in the worst of conditions and came with a lifetime warranty for peace of mind. Paid £140 for it in the sales and you can get them for about that money if you shop around (and/or arent too fussy on colour). Personally think the Goretex is worth paying for and Ill more than get my monies worth, if you can afford GG then do so imo, albeit there are other decent options at cheaper price points (proquip prob the best option)

Any Goretex (or equivalent material/process as it's out of Patent) jacket should be suitable.

GG are the best I know of, but very expensive so need to last (and they do) to justify initial cost.

Quite possible to get some 'bargains', though maybe not so many at this time of year - October/November seems better, when last years styles are being cleared. There was a Callaway Typhoon (or Tornado or something) that seemed a bargain then.

Plenty of 'love' on here for Proquip and my Benross is excellent vfm too imo.

does anyone own a footjoy dryjoy pro jacket? i was thinking about getting one of those.they look nice!!

Quick whinge about waterproofs! Very often wet hands stick to the lining of the pockets and you shower golf balls, tees and pencils all over the place as you pull them out. Could the pockets be sewn into the lining and made of a material that won't stick to wet skin?

Though GG are on the expensive side, but well worth it. like Fundy says you can get them cheaper if you look around.

There are a couple of lesser known Gortex jackets about. Our Pro was selling his 2013 stock of Nairn GC logo'd Gotex Jackets off before Christmas for not much more that £100. no idea what make they were though.

I have the new Footjoy Dryjoy Tour XP jacket and love it .. i wear it in the cold weather as well as in the rain and does a great job of keeping all that our pants weather has to throw at it.

Are you looking for a cold weather jacket…or a waterproof jacket that only goes on when raining.
GG are the best cold weather jacket. But there are many more options if your only looking for a waterproof jacket for when its raining and it sits in your bag when not being used.
I have the later in the form of a Nike StormFit Jacket, on sunday I was caught out in a biblical downpour that caused 99% of the field to walk in (including me). I was soaked bottom half but my upper half was bone dry. I can highly recommend.

Mizuno Impermalite waterproofs are excellent. Very waterproof and a good design with five year guarantee. Much cheaper than GG.

Another vote for GG however the new adidas Goretex jackets are superb.

Sports Direct have the Nike Hyperadapt at £100 off and seems to be in the same league as the adidas and GG

You make a good point Lump. I have good base and intermediate layers and I expect the jacket to be windproof. This makes it my everyday golf jacket, except when the weather is warm enough to not need it. I don't want an additional waterproof, so I am willing to pay for keeping dry and warm with a single jacket.

There are 2 types. Paclite is the thinner material designed for warmer but wet days(think British summer!!) and Performance shell is for colder wet days(think British Spring,Autumn and Winter!!). Performance shell tends to be more expensive unless there is a LTD edition jacket in Paclite on the market

Yep, ive both types and the paclite offers very little in the way of warmth, its wind and water proof and folds up small.

i received a Galvin Green Axl Goretex top for christmas, it was 220 quid.

Over the last couple of weeks I've worn it a few times in weather varying from light drizzle to monsoon, and light breeze to gale force, and coupled with just a base layer underneath it has kept me warm and totally dry.

Can't recommend it enough.

I purchased a new jacket 6 months ago. I had been looking at the Galvin Green jackets but couldn't bring myself to spend between £199 - £240. Then I came across a paclite jacket made by Zero Restriction for £140. Identical material as the GG paclite best waterproof jacket I have ever owned.
