Hi

Just a quick one to clear up my curiousity. If a bunker is half waterlogged and your ball ends up in the water when moving onto the nearest point of relief are you supposed to roll it out of the water? Or do you lift clean and drop from above head height? If the latter than surely your ball would get plugged in the soggy sand.

Thanks

Unfortunately one of the daftest rules in golf, you have to drop it. I try and drop mine with a bit of "spin", so it stands a chance of popping out of the plug mark. But it doesn't always work. Good luck.
You could always declare it "unplayable" though and take a penalty drop from where your last shot was played from.
;)

You are not permitted to spin the ball when dropping. Decision 20-2a/2

All drops must be from shoulder height

Bunkers are called hazards for a reason.

Hazard yes but that doesn't mean they become unfair and when bunkers do get flooded the idea of dropping is ridiculous

There isn't many rules I disagree with but the water in the bunkers and dropping is one

Everyone should always have the ability to recover from a hazard

IMO the rule should be that people can place in a bunker if they are in standing water in a bunker - if the bunker is full of water it should immediately be GUR

But plugged lies in bunkers are part of the game. Doesn't matter if it's from a drop or a shot. Why should one player get to place because he is getting relief from casual water in a bunker but another has to play from the classic fired egg?

Because you are getting relief from standing water and the "hazard" is not its normal stature is it - bunkers are hazard because of the sand not because it's got a pond in it. If you have a plugged lie from a shot then that's punishment , if you are in a pool of water in a bunker then you should be able to pick and place and stay within the bunker. You are still in the hazard you are still faced with a tough shot out but you aren't punished twice because of one shot - I normally just call it common sense

Ha, ha, one person's common sense is not the same as another's!

Who's to say you wouldn't have been plugged if the water wasn't there. Why make a distinction. Bunkers are normally sand but by their nature also collect water. That is also an intrinsic part of them.

High shot into wet send, plugged lie, tough luck play it as it lies. Same shot into casual water and you get to place it. You don't get to place when taking relief from casual water on the fairway why get extra benefit when in a bunker. Placing your ball on a nice spot in a bunker removes the "punishment" of the hazard if your bunker play is any good. Surely the idea (and punishment) of a hazard is you have to take what ever lie you get, not choose a nice one. Should you be able to pick and place from a footmark in a bunker?

Water Hazards are also Hazards. You don't get to have a better lie if they are muddy, overgrown with long grass or if the ball is in the water.
Don't hit it there and you won't have a problem.

Anyway, who told you that golf, like life, is fair?

not without taking an unplayable you can't.

Unplayable?

Probably best you check your facts before posting....

You can drop under penalty behind the bunker, or you could procede under the unplayable rule.

What rule are you quoting then?
The only time you can drop outside the bunker is when there is no point of relief whithin the bunker. The OP was saying about dropping within the bunker, hence there must have been relief whithin it.

If you're going to offer advice on the rules then make sure you actually know the rules first....

Proove me wrong then.

your original post said ... "You can always drop outside"

plainly incorrect.
You have already changed your advise to "under penalty"

there is is no rule that says " you can drop behind"
