Played my first ever comp last week, and mid round I managed to find a fairway bunker. Nothing unusual there, except my ball sat plumb in the middle of a 2" deep puddle :(

Everyone in the group I was playing with had different views on what my options were, ranging through playing it as it lies, free drop and penalty drop.

What was the correct option?

I'm sure you get a drop to the nearest point of relief, still in the bunker.
But I'm not positive.

Yes free drop nearest point of relief in the bunker - the stinker with this rule is if there is no relief in the bunker you can drop it outside of the bunker with a shot penalty. otherwise play it as it lies.

This in my eyes would constitute casual water and you could take a free drop at nearest point of relief(plus your one club length) but it must be dropped within the hazard. You could play it as it lies too or declare it unplayable under the usual penalty drop scenarios

Cheers guys, what I did do was stick my jacket on and have a waft at it with my 7 iron - still can taste that water! Got me out the bunker to the tune of about 80 yards though lol

Scored 28 points playing off 21, which I was pretty chuffed with :)
