watching your own choice of films in flight

Any tablet be fine, just make sure theyve got enough room to store the films or will take an SD card that you can save the films too (ask the younger relatives ;) )

And if you have a film that's in the wrong format for the device you want to watch it on you can use a free program called "Handbrake" to convert it from one format to another. I've used it to convert movies so the kids can watch them on my kindle fire.

Any decent android tablet with VLC installed (its free fom play), it plays any format without the need to convert.

Doesn't your aircraft have films for you to watch if you are going long haul? From my experience they have a very good selection which you can usually look up beforehand, and I've always found at least 3 to watch to while away the hours. If you are using a tablet then you need to ensure you can plug it in as the battery will probably not last the time of a a long haul flight if you are using it to watch movies

Hi HK, the flight is around 4 1/2 hours no on board movies , i would hope the battery would last long enough allow me to watch a couple films . I'm travelling on my own and usually take a book to read.
On my last trip the couple sitting next to me watched episodes of the TV series Silk on some kind of tablet for most of the flight, so i thought learn to lip read or buy one of my own.

I use my iPad for in flight movies and TV progs when flying long haul. Quality of video and audio much better than in flight systems. The battery lasts pretty well. I think it is searching for mobile signals that eats the battery, so if it is in airplane mode should be fine. I load the movies on my Mac using iRip and they are imported automatically into iTunes and sync to the iPad.

You can also download programmes using the iplayer app, this might be what your fellow travellers did
