Years ago, a friend of one of our party joined our Golfing group on a weekend away, to make up the numbers.
That weekend, we watched some exhibition golf from him, and altho not at that point 'officialy handicapped' if I recall, he knocked it round in single figures with a beautiful languid swing, and a very very solid game.

He's been with us ever since, now a good mate, altho his game has become shot to pieces really, as he has developed a quite horrendous 'dipping' motion as he hits many of his shots, particularly his very short irons and chipping etc.
I stood and watched him take 6/7 practice chips, all perfect technique etc, only to see his knees crumple as he played his actual shot, thinning the ball thru the green on many occasions, or taking a divot the size of Wales and moving the ball about 12 feet.

Anyone else seen anything like it and/or found a cure ?

A saw something like that once, it was a stag party who all consumed, really pretty unbelievable amounts of beer actually on the course. There game deteriorated, and very fast.

No, how old is the person in question? Could age be a factor?

Yup, sounds like he's found the chipping yips.

Had them almost forever and may have got myself a cure this year, which to be honest was just finding out what I was doing wrong, which then gave me the confidence to play the shot properly once the course.
