Why is everyone talking about how to handle the rioters from last night and the night before? it's too late, it's done.
Surely we should be trying to stop them repeating their looting tonight by detering them.

How would you deter them from going out again tonight?
 
Serious answer - non-lethal version of SB's suggestion.

"Anyone on the streets wearing a mask/hoddie after dark is liable to fall down the stairs at thier local police station"

Stange how as police station stairs have got safer the level of respect for the police has declined.

Like the Americans did after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Issue a statement saying 'all looters will be shot on sight'.

You'd only need to shoot a handful in each town, they would soon go back to their crack dens.

Martial law is the way forward.

And if they make sure the looters are dead we the tax payer won't have to pay for a trial or their x boxes in prison.

It's an absolute disgrace, full stop.

Not sure about this idea of national service etc.. That would only put the lives of our soldiers even more at risk by having to babysit these morons. If i was a serving soldier i wouldn`t want some scrote alongside me in battle, having to put my trust in him or her. Much better idea would be to get them cleaning the streets, chain gang style so everyone can see that they are a thieving little scumbag.
 
I have to agree with Moonpig,make them work,cleaning the streets,get them working on dumpit sites,seperating the trash,on question time last night there were politicians
still advocating the soft approach,it makes you realise these people are not fit for office..let the cops take charge,and answer to no one..rant over

the idea of national service was mooted before - in the 80's when all the football hooiganism was going on. I was in the Navy then and no way did we want them. Two reasons -
1. the forces are far more technical today, it takes time to train to a decent standard and then their time is up
2. as above, who would want to put their life in some scrote's hands?

definitely agree with the chain gang approach. often thought the same about community service in general. has anybody actually asked the people whose homes have been burgled or who have been mugged if they want the perpetrator in their home slopping paint around?
