Hi there if any of you are thinking of purchasing a pair of Ecco Golf shoes then think long and hard
i bought a pair from America last September and played approx 6 times with them as i was comfortable with my Footjoys and Tour 360's .
so at the back end i put them away and as usual gave all my shoes a liberal covering with leather dressing ( Hydrophane , ( world acknowledged leather product)

after two rounds one shoe split in two places with the other shoe perfect and supple ,
called Ecco suggesting that a piece of leather that the shoe was made from was perhaps faulty as it had split .
the Ecco rep in scotland inspected the shoe and deemed wear and tear and accordingly refused any sort of claim .
i further wrote to Ecco and asked for the shoes to be sent for inspection , they then asked for the product i used to protect them , i told them it was hydrophane and they said it would cause the shoes to go brittle and crack , which is absolute dogs doo's , i asked then why one shoe was okay and never recieved a reply .

so if you really want to spend £165 for 5 rounds of golf then get an absolute pack of lies from Ecco then please go a head

please look up Hydrophane Leather dressing And Also look at the pictures of the shoes in question

That doesn't look good at all !

Are you getting your money back ?

I'd write to Hydrophane, attaching the Ecco letter and say their product ain't fit for purpose because its ruined a pair of expensive leather shoes !!

thanks for that , no refund or swap out from Ecco , its nothing to do with the hydrophane product , as i have used it for over 20 years on shoes , boots , horse tack etc , makes leather very supple and soft , but according to Ecco it makes leather brittle !!! Guff !!!

Where did you buy them from ? They are not even a year old so surely they come with a years waterproof guarantee ?

^^^ Yes I have also used it on tack for years, but by writing to Hydrophane you will get a response where they will obviously deny their product could do the damage Ecco are suggesting.

You can then go back to Ecco and say their claim is bo--ocks and demand your shoes are replaced or the cash-back under the Sale of Goods Act and the OFT - it all depends how much effort you want to put into giving them a hard time

my friend got them when in America and i told Ecco that , so i think they know they can get out of any redress through the sale of goods act , i did say they were not fit for purpose , but they will not budge . Carla from customer service was helpful in passing on my concerns but they have ultimately fallen on deaf ears ..
think i will just stick with the proven FootJoys or Adiddas

The fact they look howling saves me from wasting money on them.

The worst looking shoes in golf.

Haha Andy Very Good , they were actually quite comfy, but then again I'm in my 50's

i think i will write to hydroplane and get a product spec sheet, below is Eccos final response which is utter garbage concerning leather and treatments ..
BELOW is Ecco's comments even though they have not physically inspected the shoes and are suggesting they are brittle when infact the shoes are soft . remember this has only happened to one shoe , and the other is okay so why can the product only effect one shoe !!!! a fact that Ecco do not want to recognise

" I contacted the Head of Group Product Safety & Compliance at ECCO regarding your Tour Hybrid shoes and sent him the photographs.
I asked him about the use of Hydrophane on our shoes and he replied with the following statement.

Hydrophane contains emulgator which breaks down the waterproof property in the Hydromax water repellent treatment used in our golf shoes.
This makes the leather hard and can cause the tear strength to go down. We only recommend ECCO care products to treat and care for our leather shoes and bags.

Because of the circumstances, we do not accept this as a genuine claim. We believe that the product that you used on the shoes caused the damage, and this was not a fault with the leather. We will not be offering you a replacement pair of shoes.

We are sorry for any disappointment you may have experienced, but we cannot assist you any further with this issue."

So something you used on your shoes, that isn't approved by the manufacturer, reacted with a treatment the manufacturer used yet it is the manufacturers fault

Did you look at the care list for the shoes? Seems like a Ecco have acted the only real way they can.

maybe the word hybrid refers to one shoe that will react to treatment , i would like to hazard a guess that most leather treatments are very similar and probably just branded under different names, thats some get out clause when you use anything other than their own branded name and they decline responsibility , so in effect if you use cherry blossom polish your shoes that would invalidate the warranty !!!! ... absolute nonsense , if both shoes were effected in similar ways i could accept the argument , but the fact that one piece of leather has ripped suggests that it was that piece of leather that was faulty , after all the different leather on the heel was unaffected and that has the same treatment applied

Had my pair for over a year, and absolutely no problems. Still look like new, and all I use on the yak leather is a bit of cherry blossom after each game.

I bought my Ecco hybrid tours black with grey trim [on line] nice looking shoe. But they've never been comfortable due to excess leather creasing on top.

I've also had a bad experience with Ecco. I had a pair of shoes and one sole split after about 3 months. Contacted Ecco and they didn't want to know. I bought them from a Pro shop up north so wasn't able to take them back but my local golf superstore replaced them for me as I was a regular customer.

I wouldn't touch another Ecco product with a barge pole, nice stuff till it goes wrong

I would suggest going vocal on twitter. I did with an issue we were having with Debenhams. They hated it and I had VIP service from then on. By passed their normal customer service and was dealt with directly by head office. Worth a go and if nothing else it may be cathartic. I don't like Ecco shoes so never going to be an issue for me

+1 The use of Twitter and Facebook pages to voice concerns are quickly picked up due to the number of people who view their pages. Make sure you make full use of the Various #Eccobiom #Eccogolf #Eccoshoes and any other #'s that you can find that relate to them

That way subscribers to their feeds see what you have written, you will get a quick reply, just be honest, as looking at those I would say they have done a lot more than 5 rounds of golf

Agree with this, scuffing on the toe, threads loose etc but that tear/crack is grim, I'd go the Facebook & twitter route and see where you get. I've had a pair of GTXs for years and they're still in great nick..
